Ah, a good group, but I think his cohort with Kurosawa, Takashi Shimura has him beat from 1949-1954.

Stray Dog
Rashomon
The Idiot
Ikiru
The Life of Oharu
Seven Samurai
Godzilla

Sure, most of those films feature Mifune as well, but you throw Ikiru on there as well, along with the fun of Godzilla.

You're absolutely right. I shouldn't have counted those for her as an actress. She certainly did have an impressive run, though.

Depp's best performance during that period (apart from Jack Sparrow) was playing the poet John Wilmot in The Libertine. Solid movie, you should check it out.

2010 - Inception

Loved all of them, some of my favourite movies of all time
Pretty solid list. I used to despise DiCaprio. I think mainly due to the fact that i was a young teen when Titanic came out and all the girls in my class had a huge DiCaprio crush. But I really liked The Departed. Blood Diamond was even better and my personal opinion is that DiCaprio's best work was in that movie. After that it was clear to me that Leo is one of the better actor's of his generation.

Shutter Island and Inception both are worthy for my top-15 all-time.

As i said, pretty solid list.

Well, these things are based on opinions so it is hard to trump your's.

But Johnny Depp is one of the best actors in the last 20 years. The guy has more talent for his job than most movie's cast combined.

I am with you on this. I totally hated Dicaprio but the ******* kept doing movies to kill his "teen crush" image. The beach, gagns Of New York, Catch me if you can, The Aviator... so many different movies. And then BAM!!! Departed, Blood Diamond, Body of Lies, etc... Almost all his movies are good now. He's a sure thing in hollywood. I can't believe he's almost 40 years old. He'll be remembered as one of the best actors in the history for sure.

He'll always be remembered for Titanic though, which kinda sucks because it wasn't even his best role.
I absolutely LOVED him in "The Basketball Diaries".. He was 20 at the time, and in my opinion he was as good then as he is now (obviously he's better now, but ya catch my drift).
Overall, I think his best performance was in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" alongside Johnny Depp. He played such a risky character (a teenager with special needs) at such a young age (18), and did it with such seriousness yet wasn't afraid to be creative. I really can't wait until "The Great Gatsby" comes out.. it's always been one of my favourite novels, I just hope that it turned out well..

Definitely one of the best actors of our generation. I wouldn't put him in the top-10 of all time, but I think he could go top-15 or top-20.

The King of Cool
Himself, the great Steve McQueen.

1960- The Magnificent 7
1961- The Honeymoon Machine
1962- Hell is for Heroes, The War Lover
1963- The Great Escape, Soldier in the Rain, Love With the Proper Stranger.

He took 1964 off, so I'll skip to 65 and do another five years.

1965- The Cincinatti Kid, Baby the Rain Must Fall,

1966- Nevada Smith, The Sand Pebbles

1967- Think Twentieth

1968- The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt.

Solid two lists of movies.

6 year period of greatness:

1972: The Godfather

1974: The Conversation

1974: The Godfather: Part II

1975: Dog Day Afternoon

1978: The Deer Hunter

That's John Cazale's filmography. He was also married to Meryl Streep until his death.

A bit more on Cazale, for those who don't know about this magnificent actor:

In a career cut short due to cancer, he 'only' appeared in the five movies listed above - all nominated for 'Best Picture' by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (that's Oscars, for short, if you don't know ).

* that's 6 movies if you include The Godfather Part III, which used achive footage of Cazale and was also nominated for an Oscar

The documentary is a must-see:

The embodiment of character actor. Enjoy!

How?

I am just kidding, people tend to like sick things. Personally i think Arnold's only good movie's are T1/T2 and Predator. Everything else pretty much suck's balls. But i don't like Stallone too much either.

He did lay a couple duds, like "Bronco Billy" and "Firefox," but that can be excused within the context of a 50+ year film and TV career. As much as everybody loves him, the knock is going to be that he's been typecast as a cowboy, a cop and now a crotchety old man. He directing work may end being his ultimate legacy.

I'm surprised not to see Al Pacino mentioned for 1971 to 1975:

The Panic in Needle Park (1971)
The Godfather (1972) - nominated for best supporting actor
Scarecrow (1973)
Serpico (1973)
- nominated for best actor
The Godfather Part II (1974) - nominated for best actor
Dog Day Afternoon (1975) - nominated for best actor

I would probably go with De Niro 70s run.

Tom Cruise 86-90

Top Gun
The Color of Money
Cocktail
Rain Man
Born on the Fourth of July
Days of Thunder

Decent mix of critial reviews with some major blockbusters.
