Flames organization have demonstrated to their fans in the past couple years that their scouting department has been greatly improved. They can fix things through the draft and through more minor trades.
Flames' problems aren't as bad as they're made out here (there are a lot of teams that don't make the playoffs), and this problem doesn't need to be solved by blowing everything up. Also there's nothing that suggests that Iginla wants to be moved, and have his family uprooted, his kid's gotta make new friends and go to a new school, just so he can win a Cup somewhere else.
Another thing is that it's very ignorant to claim things like 'team X will be nowhere in 5 years', because no one knows where Calgary will be in 5 years. No one here predicted that Ottawa and Florida would be good this year, let alone a few years down the road. In 5 years Calgary might be a great team with Iginla, or they might suck, but no one here is wise enough to see that far down the road.
Ha ha ha....yeah that great drafting the Flames have done in the past has netted them one solid prospect in Bart....take off your homer glasses......your team is a disaster going forward.....it won't be surprising in the next few seasons to see your team as a Lottery team.....
Trade Iggy and Kipper now and at least get something for them before they get even older!!

I don't wear homer glasses, or any glasses for that matter. My vision is crystal clear.
And the truth that I can see, is that every pick the Flames have made in the last two years look to be very good ones, especially compared to when none of our picks were good. You can underrate our prospect pool all you want, but you can't underrate their values based on where they were picked. And if a team is drafting well, which we seem to be, then that alone will make them a competitive team.

Don't know about your other prospects, but I can tell you as a Hifk fan that Markus Granlund won't amount to anything in the NHL. Too weak physically even for the SM-Liiga, and often stuck playing outside of the game. He was benched during the playoffs although he may win the SM-Liiga "Rookie award." Anyway, when looking outside of points he isn't anything that amazing and maybe getting better numbers due to babyjesus (Mikael Granlund) on his line.

Your the first finnish fan to say this in fact most have praised him and have been impressed with his play with his brother out of the lineup so perhaps the truth is some where in between?

Hockey News have you guys ranked in the bottom five for prospects and rightly so.....and they tend to be a little more objective then homer fans.....you have Bart and that is just about it......

Well, it could be that I am still pissed off that our team got swept by the lower seeded Jokerit. But I know that I am not the only fan who thinks this way. Finns tend to praise their own players too highly to tell you the truth.
Ofcourse I would like to praise Markus but I fear that he will be somewhat of a non-factor since his playing style requires top-6 minutes and I don't see that happening in the NHL. Talented Finnish players rarely end up in top-6 roles. If you look at guys like Bergenheim, Korpikoski etc. they are players who had to fight for spots in the bottom-6 because they can translate their game into a physical defensive type. I don't see that Markus could do that. Could have similar problems Omark has. A talented player that is not talented or big enough to play responsible minutes in the NHL, and who don't have the defensive tools to fight for a roster spot from the bottom-6. But that's just my 2 cents. I will happily eat crow if and when Markus becomes a more responsible player.
The reason for being dropped from the lineup in the playoffs was that he was playing in the "third line," and he just couldn't cut it. The team was always on the wrong side of the ice when he was on, and he couldn't play the required defensive game. During the regular season those issues can be overlooked to some extent but not in the playoffs where everyone has to give it their 110% at both sides of the rink.
I don't know who owns the Flames, but it's amazing that a man who owns a multi million dollar organization makes such bad hiring judgements.
Flames need to clean house more than anyone.
It is the owners that won't allow the rebuild you could bring anyone you wanted and they would be told to make this team compete this year not rebuild.
