If I remember, they didn't know that everyone is infected at this point in the comic, and something similar to Hershel happens, with the same solution taken (where it made sense, since they didn't know)

I don't know, I might have to hope somebody else comes around real soon. She's looks like a dude and Daryl deserves a fine woman. There is where the writers take some creative license and drop a super model in to the prison.
