No it isn't. That is exactly how is should have never been and shouldn't be in the future.

In baseball they specifically make it so that you CAN'T play your own division in the 1st round..only in the championship series.

Imagine if that Red Sox vs Yankees series never happened when the Red Sox came back from down 3-0 to win and go on to win the World Series.

I can't imagine in the NBA...sorry, no epic Lakers/Kings WCF series, no Suns/Lakers WCF, ect.
no Pistons/Bulls ECF when Jordan finally overtakes Isiah Thomas and company against the Pistons to go on and WIN the NBA Championship. The year before the Pistons beat the Bulls in the conference finals and they won the championship.

This is just insane and ridiculous IMO. Why are we letting divisions decide how far a team should go? It is bad enough IMO that a team like Phoenix last year is like 6th in points, but get the 3rd seed because of their weak division. Now if one conference has a down year we have to see some crappy team play in the semi-finals? How fair is that for the other teams when two great teams battle to make it to the Stanley Cup while one team destroys the other conference team that made it by default.

I can't wait to see when the Red Wings, Canadiens, Bruins, Leafs are all incredible teams and great at the same time and only one of them will be a final 4 team in the league. Should be fun to see that shyt show. I realize that this could happen anyways with what we have now...but not to this extent. Maybe Kings/Canucks were the two best last year but who knows. But with these new constraints you are basically ensuring that the 4 best teams left in the playoffs aren't the 4 best teams. It is bad enough splitting up the league into conferences...that is unfair. Splitting them into 4 conferences where only 1 team can advance? That is ridiculous IMO. And my team is in arguably the weakest conference(only 7 teams, quite a few small market).

You'll see, with these huge packs of teams it is not going to work the same way it did in the 80's.

I said 8 (or 7) is less than 15, which means greater chances of rivalries forming in the playoffs. And how will it not work the same? It's the same setup, only 1 or 2 more teams. It got up to 6 teams per division under the old system.

Who cares about playoff rivalries if it's forced matchups in the first two rounds, that never amount to a big payoff? And both eastern divisions basically have "wet blankets" thrown in that can and will screw up the "big rivalries".

Yea it's not like they propped up a bunch of weak markets in the west fircyhe better part of the last fifteen years. It's been a long time coming don't act like the NHL bent over and smiled for them at their first request.
