20 yrs ago, there would be no penalty on that play. What has happened to this league? He starts skating towards before Harrold had the puck so charging is somewhat questionable.
Even a few years ago, there was no penalty for this type of hit. Ovechkin and Kunitz used to do them all the time.
Now if you breathe on a player the wrong way you might get a penalty.
I think the most outlandish part of that video is how they needed to get that ad placement in there haha. Nice job by the announcers to satisfy advertisers and still get in their displeasure over that hit.
Flyers fan. As I said at the time, I thought it was worth 4 games. But seeing the frame by frame shots, I'm more inclined to alter my opinion on the suspension. What I don't like is the fact he took several strides before the hit. I understand that he is has to do generate some momentum to deliver a hit, but he went too far for my liking, especially since there appears to be a launching motion involved (probably not the right word since his feet were on the ice at the initial impact. Call it a horizontal launch. Which admittedly is probably the correct method to really knock someone off the puck. Lord knows Rinaldo's got it down pat.) But again the strides and distance covered pre-hit along with the fact he didn't have the puck (though Schenn probably didn't have time to see that he had just dumped it off), make me very uncomfortable with that hit. I wouldn't like it if it was vice-versa thats for sure.
And yes, I know they hit people a million times harder 10-20 years ago, but this ain't 10 to 20 years ago and I, as a Flyer fan, have seen too many of our stars lose their careers and ability to have a normal life to hits like this and the accompanying PCS (Lindros, Primeau, Pronger, Gagne for awhile. Though actually I can't remember what caused Primeau or Gagne's concussions and Pronger's was a fluke. Lindros' came from some bad hits but also from his own inability to protect himself. Still dislike Scott Stevens though. Great defenseman that he was.)
LoL just read this whole thread and some people are just way to bias. Harrold put himself in a vunerable position and that is exactly why there is no hearing for Schenn.
Agreed. I really like Luke Schenn, but Braedyn comes across as a *********.
He needs to learn how to hit like Luke so these things don't happen. The grittiness (and the occasional diving) are manageable for me. Just don't play in a way that's guaranteed to get someone hurt, especially a head shot.
I said it before in another thread. I watched my father mentally age 10 years in 1 after a bad concussion. Its horrible. Its like watching someone who hasn't quite hit dementia levels yet, but is getting there and there's not a damn thing to do about it.
Meh, I don't care either way. Though as a Devils fan, I'd like to see one of the Devils take him to task next game. That's way more satisfying than a suspension anyway.
