Well obviously not all the owners because I know of several that want a more diverse schedule.
No, you know several that say they want a more diverse schedule. AHL BoG meetings are done in secret and the only news allowed out of them is done by the AHL themselves. So no one has any idea how the Governors really vote on matters.

I was told a few years ago that the legacy AHL (non IHL) teams pretty much voted together on everything. How true, not sure.

Where would the outliers - Norfolk, Charlotte, St. John's, and Abbotsford - fit in this case? The lines seem somewhat blurred at this point.
I wonder how advantageous it would be for the league to split in two or to be realigned into two ECHL-style pods? Something like this might work best in the long run

Chicago to Cleveland, who you have in different conferences, is 344 miles. Grand Rapids is 300 miles from Cleveland.
Cleveland to Syracuse, who you have in the same division, is 334 miles. I think LEM should be with your West Conference.
The problem is a uneven distribution of teams. Yes, Charlotte could stay in the West but they've taken enough lumps being moved from East to West THEN being taken from the Midwest teams to the Texas teams. They had a nice thing going with Norfolk and Hershey before TNSE fouled everything up with the Moose.

The rest looks good, assuming that Springfield, Albany and Bingo don't move west in the next 3 to 4 years.
Who's saying that any of them would move, especially West? Would the AHL allow any of them to desert their little clique? I don't see it happening though I could see Albany becoming a team split between the Knick/Pepsi/TUC and Glens Falls down the road.

Since Milwaukee and Rochester haven't played each other for at least 5 years, the league is already in a de facto split as far as I am concerned.
In a redone league, schedule making needs to be standardized. Letting the teams drive the car in who plays who doesn't help and if the schedule is reduced even further it creates more problems and gives a negative fan image.
A similar case is the fact that Springfield and Lake Erie have never faced off when a visit of Springfield and CBJ's prospects would make good money for Lake Erie.

Those teams had low attendance during the last few years. In Bingo's case, they have a small arena, so their attendance has to be low. Springfield has the league office, so the AHL would avoid having a team move from there. Albany has looked shaky to me, but I could be wrong. I just visit the area every year.
Moving west is related to some NHL teams that want their AHL affiliates closer. I keep hearing rumors that more AHL teams are headed west. The East is thickly planted with AHL teams. There can't be too many more cities out there that could support the AHL that don't have teams. Perhaps some more Canadian cities, in the East or the West, could support an AHL team.
It sounds to me like the votes being 16 to 12 on almost everything.....
Only because you choose to believe that.
Because the voting is usually kept secret from outsiders people surmise that whatever happens in those meeting fits what their perception is. The truth is anyone that really knows never goes on the record as saying about what happened unless they make statements that exactly match the AHL press releases.
