peters will never amount to a starter tho.. so I'm not sure what you'd get.
He's shown flashes of being an NHLer. At worst, he's proving that last year was an exception. Probably wouldn't get much if he's dealt on his own, but he's an RFA after this year and the logjam needs to be cleared. May as well get something for him rather than just letting him walk, which will probably happen.
Of course, you could just scratch Muse the rest of the year then deal Boucher in the offseason as well and use Peters as a backup to Ward. You save ~400k that way. Still +1 goalie if/when Andersen is signed though.
Im not sure JR is targeting picks. If Allen goes i would bet that JR will take a lesser pick if he can get a prospect. This is the perfect market to get a player closer to the NHL instead of a pick since very few teams are truly selling.
The very next time JR opens his checkbook, it had best be for a guy with a history of putting pucks in the net who is still on the right side of 30 years of age. Quite simply, we can play as hard as we want, and generate as many chances as we have, but if it's Jiri Tlusty, Jerome Samson, Patrick Dwyer or Andreas Nodl with the chance, we're just not going to score as many goals as we should.
I'll take the over. Especially if he's paired with talent and stays healthy. Hell, he has 76 over the last 4 years as a Cane and there are still 20 games remaining in this season. Given the right circumstances, I don't think 100 is out of the question.
This team needs talent, I agree. Allen needs to go for assets, and they don't need to stockpile picks/prospects may or may not pan out at the NHL level. I don't want another Riley Nash gamble. Pull the trigger on that hockey trade, or pick off a struggling player from a team that is selling. Cut the fat (LaRose/Peters/Nodl/Stewart etc) for some real top 6 guys. This team isn't *that* far off.
So be it (and I know you were being facetious). I kind of want a trade that pisses off the fanbase and trades away a guy like LaRose who is extremely redundant on this team. I want JR to go outside his comfort zone and take a real risk. Yeah, sometimes you end up with a Kaberle, but then sometimes you get a 40 goal Center for what basically amounts to a slightly better Jamie McBain and a mid-first in a weak draft.

It's not that I hate Chad, but this would make for a fantastic time on the facebook!
We didn't pay Ruutu to score 30 goals. He has never done it. We paid Ruutu to give us 50 points, 200+ hits, a net presence, and secondary scoring. We couldn't afford to lose his jam in the top six and we had to pay for it. You can't lose Cole twice in successive years. Ruutu had all the advantages here considering how abysmal the FA crop is going to be this season.
Ben Bishop returned a 3rd round pick (granted, in '13 for a desperate team). I think he tracks fairly similarly over his career to Justin Peters, despite Peters being on waivers twice this season. Peters does have the extra year of development, but they're roughly the same age. I have to think he can fetch something if the team does want to clear that logjam at the deadline.
Oh, wow I did misread that. Even better. And I do agree about value. I think Ottawa will make a little noise in the playoffs. Maybe not contend for the cup, but they're going to give some team hell. The Anderson loss is crushing, and they're not firmly in the playoffs yet. A 2nd isn't bad at all for basically saving your season. And they did sign him to that extension.
Some rumors out of MTL that Plekanac might be available. I wonder what he would cost us?

#Habs Plekanec willing to waive no-trade clause.
I'd be thrilled to have him here. I wonder if McBain, CAR 2nd or McBain, SJ 2nd and a guy like Samson could get it done.
EDIT: So much for that?
Nick Kypreos @RealKyper
#SNtrade. Told Plekanec has never been approached to lift his no move clause and hasn't even given a minute thought of leaving #Canadiens.

No way those offers even get us close to getting a guy like Plekanec. Offensive dmen isn't something Montreal needs and a 2nd just isn't enough for a player of his skill level. Honestly, I don't understand why Montreal would even entertain the idea of trading him. Really good all-around player.
If I had to pick a prototype center to add to this roster to make us a better team, within reason obviously, it would be Pleks. He does everything well that no other forward on our roster does well all in the same body.
My wish is for Roy. I think he would be a perfect compliment to what we have. A second line center who can score like he can would make us a different team immediately IMO. Doubt we have what the Sabres would want for him but he has a year left in a deal that isn't ridiculous. Plekanec may be just as effective but I've always really liked Roy.
I'm on board for Roy or Plekanec. This team desperately needs a #2C. I doubt a trade like this for us would happen before the deadline though.
Small chance we could do something in the offseason but I really see us going with bargain bin signings and hoping one of our prospects step up to take one of the spots like usual. We'll see though.
