Giants closer Brian Wilson is likely headed for surgery on his right elbow after an MRI showed structural damage and an issue with the ligament, and his season could be in jeopardy.
Can't say I'm surprised. Wilson hasn't been the same since that 2010 playoff run. I'm not too worried as the Giants have plenty of relievers capable of stepping into the closer role. Sergio Romo is the ideal replacement, but Bochy will probably go with someone with "closer stuff." That means the adventure that is Santiago Casilla will take the 9th inning, while the guy with the jaw-dropping 14:1 K/BB ratio will be the setup man.

Good that you're not worried, because I definitely am. Never good to lose a player like Wilson, especially for the whole season.
Wilson traveled to Southern California today to get an opinion from Dr. Lewis Yocum and he’ll visit Dr. James Andrews in Florida on Wednesday. We should know something definitive by the end of the week.
Help me Rhonda, this is terrible for the Giants. God only knows what they'll be without him. Wouldn't it be nice if they could find an adequate replacement?
Using Casilla in the closer role over Romo is pretty smart. I want Romo getting the outs with men on in the 8th and Casilla starting the 9th with the bases empty and a 2 run lead.
You're seeing this more and more now, with ace relievers being used in higher leverage situations than the magic 9th.
I predict this will hurt the Giants less than people think. Not to say it won't hurt at all, but Bochy, for all his faults (STOP BURYING BRANDON BELT YOU BOWLING BALL HEADED ****BAG) can run a bullpen and the Giants have depth out the wazoo in the pen.
Oh, and the next Giant to go down in Lincecum. I had dinner with a fellow SF guy here in London and we both agreed we would not sign Lincecum, and that was before Bumgarner's signing made it obvious the Giants feel that way too.
I hate to say it because he is one of my favorite players but Lincecum WILL be the next to go down, velocity has dropped alot, his windup cannot help at all and I have a feeling his elbow or shoulder are gonna go soon

I see what you did there.
FWIW God Only Knows is one of the greatest songs ever written.
that sucks. He's somebody who honestly looks like he has a lot of fun playing baseball. Must suck to know that its going to be 12-14 months before you throw another pitch in the majors.
