Neither were dominant in juniors offensively. Bulmer's had a little better points but the same or fewer goals. Gillies played at least in a couple international tournaments whereas Bulmer has zero international nods.
If Bulmer hadn't been kept up for 9 games last year I don't think he'd be rated anywhere near as high as he has been.
I do think Bulmer's got a little better hands than Gillies, possibly a little better scoring instincts...but I honestly don't see him as much more than Clutterbuck at the NHL level.
What about hockey IQ and physicality? honest question - i haven't really seen bulmer play outside his 9 game stint last year.

thats pretty much what i think. I voted for Phillips because i think he has much greater potential.
I have to go with ZP in this one. His offensive upside is to hard for me to ignore. If he can manage to overcome his skating he will be a good top 6 player. That is why i pick him over a player like bulmer. I think Bulmer is a safer bet, but i don't seem him making an impact like Phillips can.
phillips is my boy! (no homo). from what ive seen of him play during the memorial cup and at the camps is that he has good playmaking and he can finish too if he gets the puck anywhere in front of the net, even from the side i guess. he scored a great goal from a super tight angle in the memorial cup against edm. i think he will be my future favorite on the wild, even if he isnt the best skill wise

He's got that "in the right place in the right time" thing going for him. He's not fast, he's not agile, but he is strong on his skates, and doesn't get slowed down easily.

He's one of those guys that just sneaks in after the initial rush, and makes people look silly.
I really get that vibe from Phillips (based solely upon scouting reports). Great hands, good hockey sense/hockey IQ, anywhere from sub-par to average skating, can setup AND score, but is slightly more weighted towards assists.....
Time will tell, I still just like Bulmer's likelihood of being an impact player for us a tad bit more. Phillips just has a few too many vocal critics for me to rank him above Bulmer.
I don't like the Bulmer/Gillies comparison at all...Gillies was drafted as the ultra "safe" pick. Bulmer was a risk/project erratic pick. Size is similar, skill may be similar or not, but the biggest difference is in the attitude and confidence. they couldn't be more different mentally on the ice. thank god for Hockey Ops signing on Bomber as a player development coach to give guys like Bulmer focus.

Bulmer was drafted in the 2nd round with a lot of upside, and i voted for him because between him and Phillips i think the odds of Bulmer getting to and sticking in the NHL is a little better then Phillips. Bulmer is a far better version of Clutterbuck i think, with the potential at the very top end to possibly be a top 6 forward, and i like the way he plays a lot, so Bulmer's got my vote.

I liked Gillies, but we really did screw his development up badly, whether he was going to pan out or not is irrelevant.
We let a raw prospect rot away warming the bench or playing 4th line minutes. Then, he just slowly wasted away...
