Forsberg and H. Lindholm were the only good swedes today, Erik Karlsson also had some good shifts.

Not impressed with Shinkaruk's little display in front of the Finland bench.

Kerdiles had a nice tournament (including five points today). He has a decent chance of sneaking into the first round.

7-0 is a pretty decisive defeat for a team that was supposed to be "at the same level" as the Americans.

I think he'll go first round. But my point was more towards the fact that the US offense was mostly a team effort rather than dominated by one player. Kerdiles had 5 points tonight, but that was more than his entire out put in the other four games. I'm not sure Forsberg was the best forward by any means, they probably just picked the big name.

Ah yes, a complete meltdown is very indicative of a teams skill level.

Um well it is actually. They couldn't handle the United States.

Sweden beat them twice recently before the tournament.

some reason? perhaps the fact that he is 17 and just scored the biggest goal of his life which happened to be for the hat trick and it was the game winner? you're close when you say, "nothing major." i think you meant to say, "nothing at all." relax.

Don't know if you want to go down that road. When I lived in Finland it seems like every 70's pop song has been covered by a Finnish band - Crocodile Rock, Billy Don't Be A Hero, The Night Chicago Died...

I'm not complaining by the way. Just saying....

From what I saw, I'd already take Hunter Shinkaruk ahead of Forsberg in the upcoming draft, if Hunter were eligible.

He was the most effective forward in this tourney on a game in, game out basis. He's got a nose for the net.

Irrelevant.

There has rarely been a team at this tournament that was as dominant from the first to last day of the tourney.

Six games, only 4 goals against. Two victories over Canada IN A ROW. A 7-0 victory in the final.

When was the last time any team registered that kind of success???

I actually took a look back at the goal differential for each team that won gold over the past ten years...

'02 USA ('84 born) = +36 (8 games)
'03 Canada ('85 born) = +20 (6 games)
'04 Russia ('86 born) = +11 (6 games)
'05 USA ('87 born) = +20 (6 games)
'06 USA ('88 born) = +30 (6 games)
'07 Russia ('89 born) = +7 (7 games)
'08 Canada ('90 born) = +24 (7 games)
'09 USA ('91 born) = +30 (7 games)
'10 USA ('92 born) = +26 (7 games)
'11 USA ('93 born) = +15 (6 games)
'12 USA ('94 born) = +23 (6 games)

The '02 tournament featured two additional teams who'd be slotted in lower divisions in future tournaments so the stats were a bit inflated that year. It's clear there have been some very dominant showings in the past though.

The defensive level of the US team from the forwards all the way back to net was elite. It was their offensive ability that kept them from blowing those numbers away, and I say this considering they won the final 7-0.
