why did the AHL struggle to get to a 1 to 1 franchise ratio, after begging and pleading for Edmonton after the failed Toronto experiment before they selected OKC....

Reading nor Elmira are "new markets", and in case Pelts 35 has forgotten, weren't the Afr's "blackballed" from joining or even being considered to be approved after the Florida debacle that essentially ended the hockey experimentation in Kentucky as a market for any league, since none have tried since, that's why Louisville ceased after the 2001 season, and essentially that experience ended all hopes of a successful franchise....

It's like Ontario joining the A, even though the commonality is the Kings and the Monarchs, why would AEG sell either franchise....

Wildcat's initial point stands, Pelts, unless the NHL expands and/or a license is transferred into an existing market that has a franchise in another league, ie CDS from Albany to Charlotte.

You DO remember Iowa DON'T YOU,Pelts, the Schlegels are also barred from owning a franchise in the AHL.

The Afrs are all but out of the picture now.

Aldo for the titans they had this thing called novelty at one point too. Trenton itself has fallen on economic times, but right across the river in bucks county is doing just fine...there's a lot of Flyers fans that wouldn't want to make the 45-50 minute drive to a NHL game and take the 15-20 minute drive for the cheaper AHL version. hell the reason the devils failed in trenton was because the area is mostly a flyers fan base. No one wanted to go to a 'devils' game. Trenton would be a great addition for the AHL Flyers imo..

What you are forgetting here is the Phantoms and the owners (Brooks Brothers) have already committed to Allentown to relocate the Phantoms in time for the 13-14 season. As we speak the arena is being built and will hold if I am correct, 8000. All litigation has ceased on the project and clear sailing for the project to be completed. So the Flyers affiliate will be located near them, likewise the Phillies AAA affiliate is located in Allentown (the Ironpigs).

none of that matters, wildcat, bc that point of an independent club already was addressed, in the bylaw after watching the Skipjacks and Binghamton go through those seasons, that as you stated and Rochester considered that, it's highly doubtful had the Sabres not bought Rochester, it wasn't as far back as 2006, that Rochester almost ceded their license..... it's highly doubtful the A would've overlooked that bylaw on the Independent, the only way you can now do it is do what Kahn did by buying the license of an existing franchise or as Petrovek was rumored to be doing in '09.

TO ME, THE current roster of markets is what we have, and the AHL seems to be comfortable with the 1 to 1 affiliation....

i know all of this, i'm just saying that Trenton still would of been a good fit.
