Probably although I think he was paid pretty well in the AHL.

Interesting. It seems that Huston has become a supermarket for swiss teams.

Sure for such players in Switz money are better (in Lugano indeed!) and also the standars of living are really better, more comfortable and quiet.

Nice win over the Bulldogs tonight.

Highlights

@ Justin Fontaine after his goal. He was going to hug the ref.

Really like all the sweaters the Aeros have. Nifty pass from Genoway setting up that goal ( ). A few great stops from Hackett in there as well.

He's a career AHLer capable of producing well at that level. Had his share of NHL opportunities(174 games) but hasn't been able to stick, and at 30 he is what he is. His familiarity with Yeo/Fletcher from Pittsburgh was likely a key factor in him being brought in, while his elbow on Josh Harding(2004) was clearly not an issue.

He's also a Hastings native, former Gopher, and he's big. Imagine if he got called up...

Maybe we should move this to the D & D appreciation thread....

Wait, that's what an AHL player does after a shootout loss?

Foucault was healthy scratch last two games...

Man, he was hustling at camp and the first few games of the season...too bad he has no work ethic because the kid has size and skills...

My bad earlier. Wellman with Rau and Ortmeyer. Had a great shift. Wellman draws penalty. Aeros PP.

Backdoor pass to Glennie. Easy putaway. Aeros forwards just standing around. Stars up on Aeros 1-0

3 on 2 with Wellman bringing up down right side. He passes it back to Ortmeyer who one times a blast but he hits the crossbar.

Genoway hits crossbar at end of second. Stars still lead Aeros 1-0. First 15 minutes was boring with Aeros chasing Stars. Last 5 minutes in favor of Aeros.

Some highlights:

Cuma crushed a Star breaking out of the middle of the zone.

Wellman most noticeable player on ice for both teams.

Hackett is very sound. He seems to be a positional goaltender versus an acrobatic/athletic goaltender.

Other then Wellman, not a lot of offense being created.

Foucault interviewed at end of 2nd. Again, he is coming back after being a healthy scratch twice.

Almond takes dumb penalty to negate Aeros PP.

Taffe ties it with 45 seconds left! Goalie was pulled, everyone in front of net, gets pushed behind net, Almond banks it off boards and Taffe blasts one into net.

So it sounds like Wellman's stats are just paper play, and he's actually earning them well? That's good news for him.

RE: Hackett

My fiancee would probably love the fact that he's positional and isn't doing the "OMG GET BACK IN THE ****ING NET" thing, but I get the feeling that a lot of fans prefer the crazy Fleury type that makes a million "spectacular" saves because he was horribly out of position doing something dumb and had to fly back into the net. The "capable of taking over a game" but also "liable to let in 4 softies on 3 shots because he was trying to be a gymnast" type.

Paging Ms. Conduct, paging Ms. Conduct.

Hackett may not leave his net while making saves, but does like to leave the net to play the puck despite not doing it well and has backfired a number of times.
