I'm not a fan of either, but Pouliot is just terrible. At least when Akost is on he's dynamite, and generally he's not having a negative influence. Pouliot on the other hand is actively costing us when he's out there.
That's another thing that struck me, last night he didn't take one stupid penalty, and last night was especially full of them - granted he only had 8 minutes (I actually didn't know that until I saw this thread, I noticed him on the ice that much) but it's a step in the right direction
Pound for pound i thought Pouliot was the best player on the ice tonight (meaning time he got and what he did with it) julien is easing him in to the system and not making him log big minutes. But he looked really good, I was impressed and a bit surprised. He had a thunderous hit on his first shift, played well defensively, kept plays alive, used his reach to break up plays and dangle around him, he was honestly just fun to watch. I hope he keeps his chemistry going with Seguin because Seguin could use a good winger to feed his passes to.
Overall I like what I'm seeing and if he keeps it going I'll be happy for Benoit that he put it together, he's a good guy with a sad story from juniors and im just pulling for him.
Good to hear. Though the problem for him is not to be good at a certain night. It's to keep it that way. Pretty sure you remember how stellar he was for us last year at one point and then....didn't take a whole lot before the confidence left him. You have to wish he's either a changed man, or that Julien will give him every bit of confidence he needs even when it's not going well. And the problem here is Boston depth. You had to sat Caron out to make room for him. I know I wouldn't. Unless you sit Paille, Campbell or Thornton for him which I wouldn't either since that's a perfect 4th line. We'll see how it evolves.
I am starting to wonder whether it would have been smarter to keep Pouliot instead of Andrei.
Pros:
1. Save about 2 million in cap space
2. Could have gotten a 2nd rounder for Andrei (better asset management)
3. AK is a UFA at end of year, probably will lose him for nothing
4. Pouliot speaks french
5. Pouliot can fight
Cons:
I can't think of any since I find their talent level the same, and they are both inconsistent.
This is an idiotic post. I have not actually read the answers before mine, because there was no need to.
I'm shocked. Your point 4 is just...unbelievable. Did you really write that?
I won't even answer the other points. No need to. The hockey question is obvious. AK is MILES above Pouliot.
What are you like? Really? Oh my facking god, did you really write that? Point 4?

It's Habs dude. Habs. You creep me out. You crossed a line none of us cross.

Who were they getting matched up against though? The main problem with Pouliot is he's only effected when getting sheltered from tough minutes. His flaws become more glaring if he is ever asked to move up the lineup. That Montreal had Desharnais and Eller for that role going into this season probably played a major role in him getting cut.
If Pouliot is the better choice over Kostitsyn because of "French", I guess the Habs should have done one of these type of moves every 5-6 years.
We could have gotten rid of the Naslund's, Koivu's, Shutt's, McPhee's, Skrudland's and others and kept all the Jose Charbonneau's, Eric Chouinard's, Sebastien Bordeleau's over those type of skilled players cause of the language...can't believe that a comparison of keeping a player came to this.

I love this post . And get just as annoyed when people have the nerve to bring it up ...

You guys are too funny, crossed the line, the same line that Habs management brings up every year.
The Habs management are on record saying they would like to see more french canadiens on their team, so it's ok for them to say, but I cross the line by stating it in on this board.
So to the habs cross the line by stating their coach must speak french?

Back in the days of Koivu this was a reoccuring subject. To say this is a line 'none of us cross' is very inaccurate. There are many that feel language a player speaks are the basis of his worth to the habs, it's pretty pathetic, but whatever. Just don't think it's only him to suggest it.

I remember the french coach very clearly, but I don't recall hearing management saying french players are necessary. If anything, it's trending towards the opposite. Not complaining as I really don't care about it.
Pouliot is getting stronger and smarter, players generally start coming around after 3 or 4 seasons in the league. Also, he was not a soft player. Anybody who watched the games saw that he laid out punishing checks.
I'm not sold on Erik Cole. I think he's too old and too often-injured. He's getting slower and more brittle.
I've predicted repeatedly that Benny will score more goals this year than Erik.
Should have kept Benny around and saved the cash on Cole.

Really? I suppose only time will tell, but Cole's had, what? 2 major injuries that are completely unrelated, and suddenly he's too often-injured? BP was so bad he couldn't even make the team over Pyatt. He came on strong when he first got here, but quickly cooled and became irrelevant. Maybe he'll actually live up to his talents with the B's, but he's shown no work ethic so far and most likely would have only regressed as a hab. My money is he is impressive at first and quickly becomes a 13th forward. Cole and BP are even more nonsensical to compare than AK and BP.
AK, while inconsistent, still throws his weight around and scores about 40-50 pts per year minimum.
Pouliot on the other hand can barely stay on his two skates and always takes one stupid offensive zone penalty per game. There's a reason he'll most likely be Boston's 12th or 13th forward this season, as he was ours 12th, 13th man last spring.

The main reason for having a francophone coach is NOT communication with the players, who either are anglophone or get by with basic English regardless of what they speak at home. It's to humor wiseass interviewers at press conferences who nod happily when they hear parlez-vous even though the content isn't there.
AK proved he can play in this league, that he can at least score 20 goals per season. I think we gave up too soon on Pouliot but you can't have a "VS" thing with these two.

Pouliot 3 shots and 5 hits in a little over 9 minutes (Julien has already doubled his ice time over what he was getting at the end in Montreal from Martin. )
The Bruins coaching staff are toughening Pouliot up.
