I'm not angry at nedved going elsewhere. If it's what he thinks is best for his career and family, I wish him every bit of luck. Thanks for the short stint, ned. You were a big part of the playoff drive.

CALGARY GETS LANGKOW!!!! What a kick in the balls for us

I think I want to puke

Lowe not only lost Nedved but a great player that would have been perfect on our team just went to our biggest rival at a very very reasonable price. No one can tell me that we could not have done better than Gautier and Saprykin.

This is a very bad day for the Oilers.

Wayne: "Kevin, whay are you walking funny?"
Kevin: "You should know, Wayne. You and Barnett held me down as Sutter bent me over the table."

Any word on what Nedved got? I heard he wanted 10 million over 3 years which is way too much.

I was actually a bit relieved that Nedved went elsewhere although I was OK with him coming here. But your thoughts on Langkow were my first thoughts when I heard.

Mind you, Lowe might also have been skewered for getting Lankgow anyway, at least initially. Nedved would have cost almost the same, but the ordinary fan will go "Oooh ....Nedved" and will look at Langkow's scoring rates and wonder why exactly the Oilers had to give up players to get a guy that scores less than Nedved for the same price. Yeah, Langkow is from Edmonton which would help sell it, but the perception of picking up expensive sloppy seconds might still have lingered in the Joe Fan's eyes.

With Langkow gone though, the main problem is I'm at a loss to think of anyone worth aquiring.

Hard to say...before today I wouldn't think many people had any idea that Langkow was even available.

Lowe has to do something, but I surely hope he doesn't do something out of panic or desperation. If there's nothing out there, wait until there is something.

Don't spend 10 dollars just to earn 5.

Phoenix had 7 centers on their roster (and they still do) - of course something was going to happen and I've been saying that for a while now.

Nedved going elsewhere does not surprise or upset me particularly - but losing Langkow to the Flames hurts. He was one of their few legit options for both the Flames and Oil at center and we could have hurt them by making that deal. Instead the shoe is on the other foot - and the combo of Iginla and Langkow is going to be murder on us next year.

I forsee see Taffe or Kolonos in an Oiler uni soon - oh whooppee ****

Coudn't agree more. They were better in net, and on defence and their 1st line was better than ours before Langkow.
The Nedved deal I can live with, but the Langkow deal feels like a kick in the stomach.

That's true and no way you could say that before Sutter came on the scene.

Forward - Ignila and Langkow scares the crap out of me 5 on 5

Defense - Calgary is better (no question) and Phanuef is on the way

Goal - Kipper > Conkannen

Sutter is schooling Lowe big time as a GM and enjoying it big time I bet.

Lets be a little more fair

1. Iginla has been a Flame for a while now, Langkow cancels Conroy out. Also from the looks of it Barnett really wanted Denis Gauthier in exchange for Langkow. Not sure who we have on our team right now that would entice Barnett to deal Langkow here.

2. Phaneuf was drafted due to a terrible season by Calgary, not sure how Sutter can be commended for that. On top of which, right now the 2 defences are not galaxies apart.

3. Sutter had a little backround on Kipper before trading for him (From his SJ days). Also, I cant seem to remember the last time a team traded for a backup goaltender halfway through a season who then went on to a "God-Like" season and brought his new team, predicted by most to finish no better than 8th in the Conference to within a single shot of winning the Stanley Cup. Its called incredible luck.

If you mean Lowe is getting schooled due to his inactivity due to nothing being outthere worth making deal-wise, then yes.

Well, IMO - Pheonix, not Calgary is who we should be worrying about! They're going to be RIGHT there for the playoffs. Their team scares me -especially if they were to go out and get a goalie. Looking at the Wheeler pick - imagine what kind of a goalie they could have got from somebody to trade down from 5 to the mid teens!

Just think about how good Wheeler will look replacing Brett Hull in a couple years. Yikes the Yotes have me worried.
