Getting from LAX to Staples Center.

Hi. I'm planning to go to the Kings game at Staples Center this season. I'm just wondering how can I get to Staples Center from LAX without driving to getting a cab? Is there a Metro station that can get me to or around Staples Center? How far is LAX away from Staples Center. Is there any hotels near Staples Center and are they expensive?

You could try walking or riding a bicycle. You would be the fastest moving object on any LA-area freeway during rush hour.

THe flyaway will take you to and from Union Station in Downtown LA / LAX. You would then need to take the red line (subway) to/from Union Station and 7th St Metro Center stop.

http://www.lawa.org/flyaway/

Or you can take the metro green line from LAX and transfer to the metro blue line north which the second to last stop is across the street from Staples. If you are coming from the airport take the "G" shuttle to the Green Line Aviation park and ride then get on the green line train.

use the metro link that other guy provided. Those are your two ways to get two and from Staples and LAX. Taking the train will cost you $5 if you get a day pass. The flyaway will cost about $5 each way PLUS $1.50 for the metro red line ticket.

EDIT: And use trip advisor for hotel reviews and prices. You can probably find a dive for cheap but you are probably looking at least $150 a night on weeknights and more on weekends depending on the time of year. When there are big conventions or other things going on the price will go up.

hard to get around LA on public transportation. I would rent a car, far more convenient. but if you absolutely need to, you can use google maps to find the route on public transportation. there is a line that hits the airport and one that hits staples center. google maps can do the rest for you. LAX is about...20-25 minutes away from staples by car (i think).

Also, in terms of where to stay, it's probably a bit pricey around staples center (i never looked, but can probably guess), i would look up hotels in cities around staples and just find the best rated one on hotwire.com

best of luck. in summation, use google maps for public transportation and hotwire for best hotels & locations around staples.

Fly away is your best option if you don't want to drive. Its super cheap and convenient.

It will take you from your terminal to union station. From there you can hop on the metro (I think it's the blue line, correct me if I'm wrong), it will take you directly to the staples center.

LAX is about 20-25 minutes away from LAX, then again it really depends on the road condition and also how fast/slow you drive

If you go with Fly Away and then the Metro, expect it to be around 1 hour. It will save you lots of money, rather then renting a car, getting insurance, paying for gas and parking (yuck), this whole thing should be no more than $30 round trip, i don't know how much Fly Away costs nowadays, I want to say $5-7? Metro is about $3-5?

In terms of hotels, if you wanna splurge there is the Ritz Carlton and the JW Marriot, literally right next to the staples center. If you wanna save money, there are plenty of motels and hostels nearby, just google them

Correct me if I'm wrong but i think its the blue line, not the red line! Because I usually take the metro from pasadena to the staples center. I take the Gold - Red - Blue (get off on 7th/Pico? I could be wrong it has been a few months since Ive been there

This. Take the FlyAway from LAX to Union Station, then take the Blue Line south from Union Station to the Pico/Chick Hearn exit and walk two blocks to Staples Center.

I don't know what you think of as a lot
Residence Inn Los Angeles LAX/El Segundo is very close to Toyota sports center and the Green line. $140 a night. There is a (free?) shuttle from LAX to the green line The green line stops a block from TSC and the hotel is just one more stop and connects to the Blue and the silver and both of those connect to everything else. The time from TSC to Staples is 15-60 minutes depending on time of day.

The blue line doesn't hit union station. You need to take the red line from union station and exit 7th St / Metro Center.

Metro rail is the cheapest way. You can get a day pass for $5 or $6 which can be used on the train each way. The flyaway bus costs about that each way plus you have to pay for solo trips on the train. I don't even think the flyaway will save you that much time.

Can't believe I forgot about the silver line when I ride that all the time (thanks to onlyalad). Take the green line from LAX then get off at the 110 freeway transitway. You can take the silver line bus from there and get dropped off right at staples. That is a more direct route than the blue line. It stays on the freeway so you don't have to worry about rolling through the hood.
