Kessel gets a hattrick

Hf reaction: wtf this doesn't deserve a thread!?!?!

Letang plays 28 minutes including OT

Hf reaction: Zomg he is so good.

28 minutes including OT isn't anything special for a first pairing D.

Boyle is a good comparison; Letang is much more physical, though, IMO, and Boyle is a bit more cerebral in his defensive game. One thing about Letang that stands out to me is that he plays a very "dynamic" defensive game, if you will. He's always moving his feet, very physical, very exciting. One of the most entertaining defenseman in hockey today.

Loved that play on Hemsky when he pressured him at the point, knocked the puck away, and then beat him to the puck in the other end.

Threads like these are why I still think he is overrated.
Would this other defenseman cost 3.5 mil per or less for the next 3 years?

Wait a second, wasn't our lineup completely decimated at that point in the season? I wonder why his production dipped...

I agree the OP was stupid, but this thread has more turned into talking about just how good a defenceman he's become.

He really is something special.

I'll let you know if I find one. If not, I guess you'll just have to stick with him and hope that part of his game can develop(No idea why it wouldn't. Just a matter of time really.).

Yeah well... Letang is better looking than Kessel. That's important criteria for giving kudos to a player

Glad to see this topic hasn't spiraled out of control with Penguins hate and some people can actually appreciate a good player that plays on a team that isn't their own. Tanger is having a good start but obviously the Norris talks are a bit premature. I'm just happy he continues to improve. His shot could use some work still but it'll get there eventually.

Us Pens fans wanting to stick with Letang isn't really contingent on him someday developing into a great PP QB.

He's already pretty great at most everything else.

Would people quit *****ing about how it seems someone gloated about the fact he played 28 minutes?

It's because he was completely dominant for all 28 minutes, not the fact that he played that long.

It is too bad he played so many of those minutes with the powerplay, tired the guy out.

Same here. They both are excellent skaters with great mobility, Boyle is awesome to watch with the puck and I see a lot of similarities in Letang.

The guy is just a fantastic skater. I don't know if he would win any speed contests, but he has a fantastic mix of speed and agility.

He is just too much fun to watch. Plus, man has great hair.

28 minutes is nothing special when OT is involved. In the Pens' first game, Letang himself posted 27 minutes - so did Martin. Bieksa logged 26. Fowler and Beauchimin had 28 too in the Ducks' latest game; Girardi had 31.

With all that said, Letang is an amazing skater, is responsible defensively, has good offensive awareness and silk hands to boot. Definitively a top-pairing D-man, I don't know about Norris yet but he could get a nomination as early as this season.

And yet some on here last year still considered him as a borderline #1 dman lol.

This guy is easily a top 10 dman in the nhl
