Eager - Lander - Petrell in the startup lines again. See a solid 4th line forming up. Only a matter of time when the points start rolling in also

Last game brought some well earned over 2 minutes on the PK. Heard Renney stating the need for different game situation specialist so that the special teams playtime can be divided amongst wider range of people. Oppinions on Lennarts PK playing ?

He's been great. Very good on the pk, defensively, hits people. He pretty much had a regular shift last game. No complaints from me. Very much been a welcome and much needed addition to the team. Our pk is now fifth best in the league, after being at or near the bottom for a few years in a row.

Could you tell me anything about the goalie we drafted this year, Samu Perhonen, I think he plays for the JYP Jrs. We are having trouble finding any stats to see how he is doing. Can you let us know how he is doing and/or give us a link so we can check up on his stats from time to time?

It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Season 2010-2011 Perhonen was a part of the A-Juniors championship team in finland. He was selected Playoff MVP. Has played in the junior world championships 2011. Trying to find some more also, but a very promising rookie.

I initially thought Petrell sticking on this team above Hatikainen was a mistake, but Petrell has earned his minutes and role as a PK specialist.

The question with Petrell is what do we do when Hemsky comes back?

Do we send Lander down and move Gagner back down center and have a 4th line of: Eager-Belanger-Petrell? And of course then that brings up the question of what we are going to do with Omark.

I like what he has brought the last couple of games. We've got a lot of bodies around though.

Im thinking Omark is the fist in line to get the rubber boot.

You might be right. I wonder how he would respond to getting sent down to the AHL. I thought I remembered reading when he signed his contract that in the 2nd year he had the option to return to Europe if he was sent to the AHL.

If he gets sent back to AHL (Omark) think he would benefit from playing in some european top league (Elitserien, SM-Liiga). But as stated earlier, the lineups still open and anything can happen. Hoping for Petrell to get some points also at some point.

Did you notice his speciality btw ? Heavy checking and usually no penalties as he really knows how to hit a man without it being sinister in any way Pure heavy checks

More about Perhonen

Mestis aka. The second best leagua in finnish hockey (similiar to AHL as finnish championship teams send their younger prospects there to get some experience before entering the big rinks)

5 games (out of 12)
302:37 minutes played
16 goals allowed
150 saves
1 win
3 losses (seems that he has been replaced in some game as games say 5)
3.17 GAA
90.36 save percentage

I'd like for him to be a bit quicker on the forecheck. If he could get in on the d-man faster he would really cause some havoc out there. He seems to be an exceptionally smart player out there.

As for Omark benefitting with some European time, I disagree completely. If the Oilers sent him down to the minors and he opted to go to Europe he'd be done with the organization. He has nothing to learn in Europe anymore. He needs to get better at the North American game. Him going to Europe would basically be a sign of him quitting on the team.

But, I don't want to speculate that thats what he'd do. We'll see if we ever get to that road.

In this our views differ a bit, but can understand your point there as well. Although some really good players have come "play ready" from europe after a season or two away from north american style of hockey. Funnily how we see it from our perspective is that if you get sent to AHL, that is kinda the way that you are out of the team rather than going to play back to europe.

Also other beneficials of playing more near to your relatives, actual home and other important things in life, is also important in restoring the confidence of young players who sometimes get over critisized in a harder environment.

I believe that is the case. Im not sure the Oilers care much one way or the other at this point. Pretty sure Renney couldnt care less. As far as Tambo, who knows, hard to say, we could see a trade.

It does seem that Renney loves Petrell and pretty much cant stand Omark.

Yeah agreed. You can see he likes to hit and he often is trying to set himself up to get a hit on the forecheck. But he does not get there fast enough and the puck gets moved or skated out before he can get in position for the hit.

But he still gets some decent hits in here and there though for sure and is looking to keep that part of his game up.

Is this guy the new Ethan Moreau (pre-eye injury)? He's awesome, hits all the time and is excellent defensively. He uses everything at his disposal to get the job done. He's a good skater who can take and make a pass, and possibly be a very good PKer. Huge show of confidence having him out in the final minute. He doesn't seem to have much offense but he brings just about everything else. He's the type of role player, along with Belanger, that this team has been needing. I was excited when we signed him, and he's done nothing but prove that optimism worthy. He was a little shaky in his first game but has just continued to get better.

Lander will benefit the season in OKC. I would send him down for this season. If we need fifth centerman I would call O'Marra and give him a few games and after that VandeVelde and see are they advancing in their development.

Although I know Omark is not a bottom 6 player I am happy to see that hard work is rewarded instead of natural gifts/talents, as Petrell is playing and Omark is in the pressbox or in the AHL.

Omark has been a "wet dream" for me for numerous years and I have been mad when he hasn't been given a fair shake in the big club. However, I really like the approach the organization has taken this year, in that the most compatible players get to play. No more rebuilding or "letting the kids play and learn through mistakes."

I must be honest, I have found it hard to be intrested in the Oilers these past few years. It however seems that the team is finally finding their groove, which of course makes me happy. I have been an Oilers fan ever since I first touched NHL97 as a little kid. The last time I have prayed in my life was for Edmonton to win game 7 when Edmonton played against Dallas in the playoffs sometime in 98/99. Edmonton won the game and I was as happy as boy can be. Don't really know why I have later lost my touch with God

Anywho, it's really nice to wake up every morning (your games usually start at 3-5 am Finnish time) and see the kids develop, and ofcourse to see my favourite player Petrell thrive.

Here's hoping for a succesfull season!

Same here. Just ordered the Viasat package from Lennarts smaller brother Henri so I will be able to see them myself as well

I was really impressed with Petrell last night.

He goes out plays a smart game and then he was out there laying the body and mucking it up.

He played great last night. He definitely amped up his physical play and was landing thunderous checks which was what this team needs. Also as always had a good stick and was great on the PK.

He is growing on me.

You don't win the cup without guys like Petrell. The word quit doesn't exist in their vocabulary. Does everything you ask him too, and refuses to give high scoring opposition time to make plays. Very good bottom 6 player, should be extended if this continues. (it's early) Congrats to Surturus on staying loyal to the abilities of what he knew a player could accomplish. Big ups! Great to have these finnish posts here, you guys are great.
