I mean there's nothing to hate at all about Tripp. Of course he's a huge homer for the Canes, but he also gives tons of credit to the opposing teams during the broadcasts. We all know he has entertainment value. He's basically an HF Canes section cult hero.
This is my feeling as well. What he could potentially lack in professionalism he gains ten-fold in entertainment value. And when you think about it, entertaining is basically his job.
Nicest guy ever too, best unconditional fan I've ever seen. Story time:
The lockout was my 5th grade year. I was crushed. Me and another die-hard Canes fan friend even put up "Bring Back the NHL" posters around school as if they'd have any effect on anything at all .
But anyway, at the end of the year, in May-ish, our teacher gave us a research project. The topic... entirely up to us, as long as it answered a question and required a decent amount of work. So, I decided to do a project on how goaltending and its technique have changed since the NHL's beginnings. I did a timeline, decade by decade, describing the subtle changes in style (and of course effectiveness). In the middle of my research, I decided, what the hell, lemme shoot Tripp an email. I figured he didn't really have anything going on with the lockout and all, so I gave it a shot. He never responded. But it wasn't a big deal, I figured he was busy.
THEN, the next October, I get this confusing email back from Tripp saying something along the lines of "Hey Joseph. Sorry for responding so late, my email's been backed up. If you still have any questions for that project, here's my cell number."
I love making fun of a lot of the stuff the guy says (in fact, in 5th grade my favorite inside joke with the aforementioned friend was that we were going to go eat spaghetti at Kevin Weekes's house later that night with Tripp ), but it's impossible to not realize he's a quality dude.
Wait, he gave you his cell number? Do you have that email somewhere by chance?...
LOL didn't have my own email back then. I think it was the typical email of the time (remember Outlook Express?) and I got rid of that computer. I doubt I've got it.
But yeah, he did give me his cell. It was kind of wild, you could tell my parents were confused.

EDIT: Whoops. And now you all know my first name.
Was that JMF by any chance?
Also, I'm tempted to post the link to your facebook page right now.
Nah but seriously, I dunno. Just kind of stopped caring. Still understands all of the rules and can give you an opinion on whether or not a controversial hit is clean or not, etc, but I doubt he can name five Canes players (or like 15 current NHL players for that matter).
"I think Skinner is showing maturity in a good way..."
As opposed to maturity...in a bad way?
To this is kinda have to say, really Tripp?
I totally disagree with this, I don't like how Skinner is acting somewhat like Crosby at the start of his career. Sure he's making some great plays but the temper tantrums are getting old. But I understand that he has a tough season though

From my vantage point last night, Skinner mostly just played through the beatings he absorbed. Not a lot of whining, again from what I could see. Dude needs to get stronger, because some of the hits that put him down weren't exactly big ones.
Meh, I think the "temper tantrums" are being over-stated. He's a young, emotional, driven and extremely competitive guy. The best youth players I coached always had a little bit of that in them. People on this board complain when a guy like Staal appears to be apathetic, Skinner is just on the other end of the spectrum.
He's 19 and will continue to mature as he get's older and I suspect you'll see less public display of emotion like this.
When his frustrations causes a stupid penalty, then I think the criticism is warranted. Otherwise, not a big deal to me.
"Kirk Muller's father was a mail courier and died when Kirk was young. It was a huge influence on his life. I bring this up because this Carolina team has refused to give up and tonight is able to mail it in."
