2 games in, 10 goals against, outshot 2-1 in both games.

Seems like a lot of problems to work out before Thursday...

Unsurprisingly. Flames look slow and totally uncoordinated in their own zone, running around chasing the puck. I don't blame Karlsson for this, the team had 17 recorded shots on net, thats like what? 2 more than the first game?

Kind of like another rerun of our 09/10 season again.

Turned it off.

Sutter continues to baffle me with his decision making, He can shake his head all he wants to after a goal but the fact remains that he is a major factor in why these games having been going they have.

The only players I liked today were Iginla and Stajan

Pathetic effort.

--------------------------
Tanguay - Stajan - Iginla
Bourque - Horak - Stempniak
Glencross - Jokinen - Moss
Jackman - Byron/Bouma - Kostopoulos

Sit Hagman

He let in four bad goals tonight, so yes he was a major factor in the loss.

Not the only factor however.

It could've been worse. I mean just off the top of my head, the right leg save on Stewart could've gone in pretty easily among other things. Blues were totally controlling the play for most of the game like when they forced the Flames to burn their timeout so early on that one play. He didn't play stellar, but when your team only gets 17 shots, you're likely losing when u give the other team 30+

Get rid of Stajan and Hagman, both were terrible and ineffective. We need Backlund's speed/energy back not a moment too soon.

How was Stajan bad today?

I agree with you however that Hagman was absolutely terrible and is better served outside of the lineup.

Stajan was solid tonight. Working hard and doing the best he could with what little he had to work with.

The fact is, this team still isn't a very good hockey team (I know, two games in, blah blah blah, but it's true).

I agree, but this team is still good enough to earn a playoff spot.

We will however encounter games like these on a fairly consistent basis over the course of the season. It's the reality of the situation, no matter how frustrating it may be.

Once again, me deciding not to watch the game again was a good call it seems.

Really guys? Hagman had quite a few good chances I thought. To me Bourque looked absolutely uninterested out there.

Outshot, outworked, outscored.
Pretty simple.

I agree with the above statement that Bourque looked uninterested.
I saw Bouwmeester pass him the puck along the boards and Bourque just watched it go for an icing. Had no intention of even picking up the pass or putting some effort into getting his stick on it. Just watched it go by him.

The terrible was more on Hagman as Stajan, despite working hard was just still ineffective. The end of the day, I can appreciate hard work, but for the Flames to compete, they need their players to be effective as well as hard working. This includes Hagman finishing his chances.

Like despite limited icetime, I thought Horak was more effective than many others, I saw some good dump ins and some faceoff wins. I hope our fortunes turn when Backlund comes back (as i said earlier).

Calgary playing afternoons is pretty much a guaranteed loss.
Didn't watch the game, but had a feeling Flames would have a tough time against a fully equipped Blues squad. Was a bit surprised to see Karlsson's name in the boxscore.

This team should be on a short leash, after the last two seasons.

First of all - GET MOSS OFF THE FRIGGIN FIRST LINE!!!! His lack of skill is painful to watch. He's best served as a 3rd line winger who drives the net and kills penalties.

Also - bench Sarich and get Babchuk back in. His shot alone creates some chances.

I would look at dumping Kostopoulus. If he has no future after this year with the Flames wouldn't it make more sense to let Bouma, Nemisz or Byron play in his slot and develop their game?

I agree, I think Iginla and Stajan looked good. I would also add Horak, Stempniak, Glencross, Sarich and Butler to the list of Flames that had a good game. Everyone else looked just average or bad. I have no doubt that the Flames will bounce back, but we can ill afford a poor start to the season with how competitive the West is.

If Moss is still on the first line on Thursday I will be baffled. Every game matters coach. Stajan has been good in the preseason and good to start the regular season. We get that you don't like him, but he's our best option to centre Iginla and Tanguay.

Karlsson had a bad game, but even if he had a good game we would have lost.

This was my thoughts during the pre-season. Kostopoulous was outplayed by a few guys during pre-season in my opinion. Dump him before the deadline hopefully for a 5th rounder. PLLL is able to play, maybe see what he can do.

I think TO or Montreal could be potential destinations for Kosto. I think a 5th round pick would be about the best we could expect for a return. Which I am fine with being that we don't have one. I agree, lets give his spot to a younger guy even though I don't mind what he brings.

I don't dislike stajan, if that was directed at me. I just over estimated his abilities when he came over from to as I thought he was a quasi number 1b center. I just don't like 3million dollar 3rd liners much. so if he can't play on he top six he needs to be moved since he's not much of a grinder.

who do you think would want him if that is the case? D. Sutter is no longer in the league.

The game was brutal.

Bouwmeester has to become a top pairing d-man for this season to go anywhere. I really don't think that Stajan or Hagman have a spot on this team. They just are not effective in a bottom six role. Stajan had a good defensive game, but at the end of the day he is not that bottom six grit that we need, same for Hagman.

Get Moss off the top line! Is Sutter insane, seriously do not understand him right now (as others have pointed out).

Butler, Glencross, Jokinen (except for a few bad turnovers), Stempniak, Iggy, and Giordano all had good games.

Karlsson let in some floaters, but regardless the flames looked like an AHL squad.
