What kind and year of car do you have? Some cars have an aux input, that you'd just have to buy a cheap cord that goes straight into the stereo and iPod. Others have the cig lighter you were talking about, and usually you'll have to tune it to something like 88.9 on FM.

If your deck doesn't have usb or aux inputs you have to use a transmitter. For transmitters you just use frequencies that aren't already being used by radio stations in your area.

Getting a deck with usb/aux inputs is definitely worth it. I got one for ~160.

I find it odd that a user would create an account just to ask this question.

Really odd.

Some mod should check the ip address. Likely an "experienced" Geek Forum poster who is embarrassed to have to ask.

Why would they be embarrassed? Frankly it's car audio not building a rig. A lot of people are curious when it comes to car audio stuff, not a lot of people know this stuff right off the top of their head.

Anyways I think the OP should just use the transmitter or go to bestbuy and buy a deck from Alpine for like 100-150$ and be all set.

If you have a cassette player in your car, buy a cassette on that connects into your IPod. The transmitters via the cigarette lighter get a lot of static, at least for me, but i went cheap.

It's not an assumption.

It's a fact. You created an account and this was your first post.

Where am I assuming anything? I guess I shouldn't have used the word "just". But as of right now you have 3 posts. All 3 posts are here. At least I provided you with an answer to you solution.

Glad you got it to work.

Have a good day.

It's a cheap solution if you don't have a Aux input in your car?

For whatever reason, cassette adapters never worked in my car (96 Explorer). I bought a brand new one because some of the speakers weren't picking up correctly, and the same problem persisted. Conventional cassettes worked fine, and the radio was great, so I eventually found an FM transmitter for like $7 at Big Lots and never looked back.

Yes I understand it's function, I was legitimately asking the poster for clarification on what was "awesome" about it....

It's like saying you have an "awesome" phone charger in your car for charging your cell phone...

I bought a transmitter a year ago and I hated the crappy sound quality.
Dont do it.

If your factory radio doesn't have an AUX input, you should check if your car is compatible with one of those little beauties:

It's basically a module that you connect to the back of your radio and that tricks it into thinking that you have a cd-changer when its in fact your iPod thats plugged in.

It can be found cheap on ebay too, search for ''iPod2Car''

Since I installed one of those on my 2003 Vibe, I haven't looked back.
Perfect sound quality, you can change tracks with the radio's button AND it charges my iPod so it never has to leave my car.

How almost nobody knows these little peripherals exist is beyond me.

Why would someone who never posts in the Geek Emporium come to this thread just to defend a new poster? With the same terrible writing style as well.

This is fun.

I opened the thread because the title interested me. Great deductive reasoning.

Thanks. I love threads like this. My reasoning is impossible to prove (for me) so it's not a big deal.

Hope you "both" stick around and help contribute to our community.

Because prior to having an AUX input in your car as standard you would have to buy a fancy plugin device for your iPod that cost too much.

When I still had my tape deck, it cost me $5 to be able to listen to my iPod in my car. I consider that "awesome".
