The team in general. And the fact Gretz may be in the pressbox or Chimera on the ice will not help.

Comrie...

I have nothing against Nedved... he has the right to sign where ever he wants, for what ever he wants.

Comrie by a longshot

There is something that we are not being told

other media outlets are now reporting that the Oilers were offering less base money then what the edmonton papers said they were offering

team1040 vancouver and mojoradio vancouver

If the rest of it was made up in terms of a signing bonus, what's the difference?

The Phoenix deal (of $2.9 mil) includes a signing bonus, and incentive bonuses.

Nedved was free to do whatever he wanted. He wasnt Oilers property. Hell, he only played with the Oilers for 20 games.

Comrie, on the other hand, is a little *****.

I still don't think Nedved planned on coming back to Edmonton, Lowe didn't even get to counter offer. I think he gave into his wife's wishes a long time ago. There is nothing wrong with that, just own up to it. I hope she shows up in Edmonton some time so everyone can boo her. Maybe she will come to a game and sit with Janet in Comrie's box, that would be a booo fest.

Why on Earth would anyone boo Nedved. Oh, I forgot, this is Edmonton...

He wasn't Oiler's property, he was free to sign wherever he liked & he made a choice based in large part, probably, on his personal life.

Why did he string Edmonton along? He knew he wasn't coming back here and that is fine. I just wish he told them a long time ago and that he would own up to the real reasons.

I don't think its much of a stretch to believe that Lowe actually already gave his final offer.

"string Edmonton along"? Puh-leeeeeeeeeeeaaze. Grow up. It's called negotiating. You have no idea whether he was sincere in his willingness to play here - you just want to find blame somewhere. If we are to believe the "it's Canada or me" story re: his wife, there's no question that he was seriously considering it. KL offered a situation where the $$$ was good but the overall package wasn't so good for his marriage. Phoenix offered similar $$$ and a much more favourable situation with respect to his personal life. No contest.

A sensible story can still be made up, as follows.

Edmonton was the only team offering a decent 3 year deal. Nedved's not really interested and is hoping for something sweeter so he decides he might as well wait because Edmonton doesn't look like they're going to make a move any time soon. Phoenix arranges a trade for Gauthier but the asking price was Langkow so they look for a UFA. They contact Nedved, who's sitting on the beach waiting for a better offer because he'll only take the Oilers' offer if absolutely nothing better comes along. Nedved says he's got an offer from Edmonton for 8 over 3. Says "beat that and you have a player" so they do even though Nedved probably would have taken less to go to Phoenix. In this story Nedved wasn't so much string Edmonton along but keeping the offer as Plan B in case Plan A never materializes.
