Another good, aggressive minor move by Armstrong.

Chorney is only 24 - maybe he still has some upside. Was well thought of coming out of college.

His role is to sit in the press box and maybe play a game or two if another d-man gets hurt. If he shows something, he stays - if not, Cole or Syvret gets the call up if Cola is out long term.

I think this is the right answer. If someone gets injured or if Nikitin or Huskins has a really bad game, he might see some time. But I feel even if one of our defenseman does go down for an extended period of time, Cole will get the call.

Im willing to give him a shot though, hes coming from a pretty dysfunctional organization over the past couple of seasons, and he has some talent. Problem is his skills are redundant with Shattenkirk and Carlo, and he is far less proven than either. Yeah, hes probably a temporary stopgap.

Just because he was Oshie's friend in college, does not necessarily make him a "party buddy." Jumping to conclusions just a bit, methinks.

Looks like another Armstrong pick up of a player he liked in the past. Nothing to lose.

After Armstong's success rate with Sobotka, D'Agostini, (he should get credit for Crombeen too, I think), and apparently Grachev....I can't help but get a little excited when he makes a move like this. Makes me think there's a chance the Blues are stealing a potential diamond from the rough.

It's true that he seems to have bad luck, but the play that injured him was actually a filthy slewfoot. Then Huggybear kicked him in the head while he was on the ice.

Preds fan dropping by to say sorry about Carlo. I agree it was a bad play- a knuckleheaded play by a young player but by the time you make the big show you have to know better. Stortini didn't look like he bothered to hold up either. I don't think he meant to knee him but he may have and he didn't make any effort to do anything else.

I personally hate your team because the Blues fans were by far the worst visitors in the first couple of years of our team's existence. However, I'm never happy to see that kind of play from any player of any team against any other. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I've never understood this mentality. I meet terrible Blues fans and great Hawks fans and it doesn't affect which team I root for. The team and the fans are not the same entity. Plus, judging fanbases by the antagonism that occurs in rival arenas is not particularly effective.

You can find idiots in any fan base and I assume the fans that went to Nashville probably hit up the bars before the game.

Just be glad you don't have the history of playing Detroit in the playoffs. There's always that one guy or group who can't let things go and gets himself tossed out of his own road trip game. On a more serious note, it's kind of a waste to worry about how people act drunk in an opposing arena, they're certainly not there to make friends or be remembered for politely watching their team win or lose.

Yeah, didn't intent to derail the thread with a hate the Blues comment- it was meant to highlight that love/hate of a team or player should be irrelevant to reaction to that type of play. It deserves to be called out and not repeated.

I fully understand and agree. I just don't understand the connection of teams and fans. Meeting cool or terrible fans of a team means nothing to my being or not being a fan of that team.

My worst experience at a hockey game was with a fellow-Blues fan. I seriously came close to punching the guy...but it was just me and my 5 year old son so I had a bit more restraint than usual. He eventually got escorted out for other reasons, but this guy had some issues.

(I made a joke with him about sharing my leftover nachos, and he somehow took offense...than started throwing peanut shells at me whenever I was watching the game. It went on and one. He also had loud and frequent profanity in an area surrounded by kids. And didn't have tickets to the lower bowl where we were sitting. The whole area applauded when security finally removed him.)

To go back on-topic, I'm glad the .gif of Carlo into the boards was resurrected. That never stops cracking me up. I may need to switch to a Carlo-face avatar (if anyone has the skill to create that image). I also wish there was a way to capture Pangs commentary when that originally happened. He couldn't help but crack up on the air.

I fully agree with this and I can already see it happening with Chorney.
The guy is an outstanding shot blocker(95 Blocked Shots in 56 career games), is willing to throw the body around and has good offensive skills. Coming into a more structured system could help him turn his game around and emerge as a Matt Carle type D man.

This could be one of those huge under the radar pickups.

Carlo's minutes are going to be eaten up by Nikitin/Huskins, Chorney is just a stopgap instead of calling up Cole to get few minutes/scratched.
THIS is the situation. Chorney will sit in the pressbox, so Cole won't miss AHL games.

Here's HF's assessment of him for his NHL draft: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/taylor_chorney

He's got some decent offensive sense. He's never been a very physical defenceman, and has struggled in his own end at Edmonton. He'll be waived when Colaiacovo returns.

If they had no intentions of putting him into a game eventually, they could have easily called up Syvret or Ponich.

The Blues had 14 D men under contract before bringing in Chorney. I can't see Army picking a guy up just as a stop gap. I think Army see's something in Chroney and wants a more in depth look at him. I don't see us waiving him when Cola gets healthy unless Chorney is stinking up the place.

Armstrong said that they were high on Chorney in 05 and this is a chance to take another look at him, so don't be surprised if we see him play in a few of the next games.

What little I could find about him says that skating is his strong point. We'll see if we get a chance to see what he can do.

I watched him in a lot of UND games. He's a very good skater and very mobile for a defenceman. He also has very good offensive sense. For some reason, his high-scoring at the college level has not translated to The AHL or NHL yet. But, he needs to get a lot better in his own zone. Maybe he'll play a few games for The Blues in The NHL, but, it would be nice to be able to "sneak" him down to Peoria when Edmonton won't want to grab him back.

Hopefully he gets in a game, if only for us to see him play a game with us, rather than being the 7th man for the next week or so without actually stepping foot onto the ice.

Good way to piss of Cole, I would rather have him come up and get more exp than use a temp.

I have high expectations for Cole, but I want the Blues to do what they need to for the best chance at winning. Cole needs to earn it. If he was playing better than Nikitin, he would have been on the roster.

Now, the Blues have a chance to steal a free asset and see if he adds value to the club. I'm not sure if they'll be able to keep him once Carlo comes back....but that's a problem for a different day. Heck, Cola could be out for the season (meant to be facetious, but sadly possibly true).

Anyway I'm a lot less worried about pissing off Cole than I am about seeing Cole bust his ass to improve his game.
