St. Louis claims T.Chorney, NSH claims B.McGrattan

per Bob McKenzie

I was racking my brains thinking of teams that could claim Chorney and St. Louis were one of the ones that didn't make sense, but I guess they do with Colaiacovo out. Play him a bit, see if he looks serviceable and, if not, put him back on waivers once Colaiacovo's ready.

Apparently Nashville was looking for a better fighter than Zach Stortini.

Yeah it sounds like Colaiacovo has a concussion so who knows how long he will be out. Ian Cole really has to be disappointed though...he's been itching to get recalled by the Blues.

i don't understand claiming McGrattan. He may be a better fighter, but it took Stortini a week to become a fan favorite in Nashville and he can at least take a somewhat regular shift\crash and bang a bit. McGrattan can barely even skate.

Stortini bleeds scoring chances against, he's terrible.

As for Chorney, he can't play defense, a loooong shot to stick in the NHL. This hurts our farm team.

Stortini can't fight, which is what he was in the NHL for. If you can't do the one thing that you're under contract for, you're garbage.

I don't understand why NSH signed Stortini. It's not like they have never seen him play. His fighting has come a long way from his huggy days, but as his fighting got better is overall game really hasn't improved.

McGrattan actually had a good training camp and didn't look out of place from a hockey standpoint in the preseason games. His skating and hockey skills are on par with George Parros and the other heavyweights of the league.

Stortini over McGratten any day of the week for me. Stortini brings good grit to the 4th line, and his work in the community would be a great thing for a team like Nashville. He can actually play hockey, i could see an Ian Laperierre type career for him if he ever gets the chance to establish himself again.

Why did the Ducks even sign McGrattan?

Nice uninformed comment there. McGrattan is a pretty good player for an enforcer. He played extremely well in the AHL last year and even got PP time in a lot of the games. Not a liability.

He has a 2 way deal. He was in Syracuse lase year, and played well. The Ducks resigned him to a 2 way contract this year. He was slated to play in Syracuse this year, and be a call up in case Parros got hurt.

I sincerely hope Chorney puts it together with the Blues. The guy is lightning fast, but needs to work on the defensive side of his game. With the Oiler's luck he'll become a perennial all-star now that he's left for another team.

If Stortini is taking regular shifts, your team is in major trouble. Seriously. He was the worst player on the worst team in the NHL (even worse than JF Jacques) before being sent down last year. I love Stortini, but the guy isn't an NHL level player, and isn't an NHL level fighter.

Perhaps last year was tough for him, but historically he's been a good defensive player for a 4th line fighter. I'll say that with confidence because there's no way he would have been a regular player and a favorite with a defensively oriented and anti-fighting coach like Craig MacTavish if that wasn't the case.

We will once Colaiacovo is cleared to play. I think Armstrong wanted to mess with someone after he got waiver blocked twice last season.

If he has potential, why wouldn't the Blues just keep him and develop him ?

Because he has to stay on the NHL roster and I doubt he is better than Cole
