If we are drafting in the middle part of the round, I would love to add Cody Ceci to our prospect pool. This kid has "Shea Weber" written all over him IMO. A big body d-men that can lay the big hit, has a booming shot from the point and is a very mobile blueliner for a guy his size. Oh yeah, he's a right handed shot to boot.
My perfect scenario would be to trade up and grab Matt Dumba. That kid is going to be ****ing electric. Having both Larsson and Dumba on our blueline would make me cream my pants every single game.

Ditto. That said, we would have to hope some of our D prospects pans out (Gelinas, Burlon, Urbom) so we can trade him for C/RW. That won`t be easy...

If we draft Dumba, wich seems highly unlikely, I'd throw Merrill in the same boat as Gelinas/Burlon/Urbom.
I don't want to move Merrill but if we get Dumba, he's our best bet a getting something pretty solid in return. Guys like Gelinas and Burlon won't get us anything of equal value so might as well keep them. I'd consider moving one of Urbom or Merrill if need be, but once again, the odds of us getting Dumba are slim to none... unless we suck again and manage to win the lottery for a 2nd straight year .
If we want a shot at Dumba, Lou will have to move up in the top #5 IMO. With the several picks we have in this years draft, I want us to pull a "2003 Anaheim/Philly" if possible. Getting two players in the 1st round can turn out to be a very solid move considering the level of talent out there. I rather get 2 top notch talent in the 1st instead of stockpilling picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round.
P.S. How did Washington manage to get Colorado's 1st round pick in a heavy draft for Varlamov... WTF were they thinking in Colorado, seriously? The last thing I want is for McPhee to pick Grigorenko !!!
I really hope Colorado will make the POs. Like that team a lot. Varly too.
McPhee gave us his 2nd, he prob won`t be able to move up, so GO Avs GO!
I like them as well but when you finished 2nd last, do you trade your 1st round pick of the following year for a young, unestablished goaltender in Varlamov?
I know it's kind of early to call someone a sleeper but defensemen Michael Matheson can be a late 1st rounder that will turn out to be a heck of a player down the road. He played midget AAA at the same place I played (Lions du Lac St-Louis) in Montreal and has the type of game that Kris Letang had back in the days.
Yes. I'll take my chances moving a young guy to RW or picking up a vet.
I mean, if there's a "how is he on the board" winger, grab him, but center depth and defense is how you build consistently good teams.
Right. You pick the winger is the winger is head-and-shoulders ahead of the competition, but Center and Defense are the positions that are needed to win championships.

If I was a Avs fans, I would've been irate.
Not only that but Varlamov was also ready to go play overseas because he wanted to be the clear cut #1. That was out in the media and therefor the Capitals shouldntve had any bargaining power in trading him. They were going to lose him for nothing and they turn around and get a first from a team that drafted #2 overall the previous year?
Even if Varlamov turns into a stud for the Avs I will always look at that trade as a fail for the Avs because IMO they couldve gotten him for a 3rd if they played hardball.
