We weren't talking about getting Tarasenko, we were saying a similar deal where we swap a defenseman for a forward. If we drafted a defenseman in 2012 he would easily hop over Merrill as our #1 defensive prospect.
At this point I would think of trading Merrill for a center or RW. Some players that come to mind are:
Emerson Etem
Kyle Palmieri
Tomas Tatar
Gustav Nyquist
Teemu Pulkkinen
Jaden Schwartz
Joel Armia
Luke Adam
Zack Kassian
I'm not saying Merrill would definitely fetch any of these guys, but they would be good exchanges for us IMO.
Tarasenko would be a PERFECT fit, it`s just not going to happen.
EDIT: yep T21, I`m sure I was one of them too.
EDIT2: Some of those names are untouchables. Just saying.
Interesting names though. Especially Kassian, Tatar and Palmieri. Obvious reasons. (Meathead, Slovak, NJ native) haha

As you can hear the announcer. Yes, it was Kuznetsov.
That`s why we hope Colorado finish high in the standings. I mean. Ovechkin, Yakupov, Kuznetsov, Semin, Orlov, Carlson, Green, Alzner, Backstrom, Johanssen, Galiev, Neuvirth, Holtby.
Talent`s not everything but GOD DAMN Sherman, you tool.

i have no sound because im in the computer lab. It would be absolutely craaazy if washington got their hands on nail though. Anything is possible at this point.. even parise for statsny.. hahaha not
I know it`s just a pipe dream, but still. I don`t get this "bring the hometown boys in" mentality.
It brings an excitement to the area. Home town kid playing for home town team. Since you don't know the area, Livingston is about 20 min away from The Rock. It is 2 towns over from Newark. He grew up playing in South Mountain Arena, which is where the Devils used to practice before The Rock was built.
Oh yeah, and he is a very good offensive defenseman.

Every good player should bring the excitement. Fair enough though.
I don`t mind picking some homegrown player in mid/late round (I believe Minny picked two of them last year), but to be obsessed about 1st round pick coming from the area is unnecessary IMO.

I think it is also part of growing up from the town over from him and knowing how many Rangers fans in the area. You introduce a kid like Ebert into the team and he turns out to be a really good player, say hello to a lot of new Devils fans and less Rangers fans.

If it works out that we can get Ebert and he's the BPA, great. But I don't want the Devils to go out of their way to get him.
He put up 41 pts 11g 30a last season in his first year of juniors. He also has 7pts 7a in 12 games so far this season. He is that final offensive defenseman we need. He would definitely be BPA if he was available to us. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=123311
The big thing with us drafting Ebert will be this....
He would be the first true Jersey Devils fan to come to the club. I can't count jimmy dowd so dont bring him up.
Nick goes to every Devils game he can while he is home. He grew up with the Devils in their prime, and is the OFD we need. Every Jersey kid ever drafted was never a Devils fan as far as I know. JVR was a rangers fan, Ryan a Philly fan, and Carlsson is a Bruins fan. Ya, you can say players growing up had posters of Stevens, Brodeur and Neids on their wall, but none were home grown Jersey guys.
I think it only makes sense for the Devils to make the most of a chance to draft the first True Jersey Kid and promote the hell out of it.
Well, unless we suck this season, or trade up really well, I don't think we'll have a chance at him.
I'm not convinced the Devils would market him properly anyway.
I've seen him all over the rankings and with guys moving around all season he might be available mid-round. Also, we know how some teams shy away from picking defensemen in the first round because of their development curve.
I don't think it would be possible to screw up the marketing of him. He basically markets himself and the Devils by being from the area.

In a draft loaded with defencemen, that won't be true. They can't all drop.

It is still really early in the season for rankings. Maybe he gets hurt or slows down and drops, and like you said, someone catches fire and moves up the list like Huberdeu did last year, and he ends up in our laps mid round.

There will be teams that don't need defensemen in their system and use a different drafting method than we do. There will be teams that think a certain forward is BPA over a defenseman. It isn't like you can really compare them too much since they have to do different things.
While there are many talented defensemen, there are also talented forwards. I just don't see 10 defensemen going in the first 15 picks. I can maybe see a 50/50 of defensemen and forwards in the first round and even that is a stretch. I just expect more defensemen to go in the first round than usual.

I actually agree with this. The last time a draft was this deep with players, Shea Weber was taken in the Second round and Big Buff and Enstrom in the 8th. I don't think teams pass up the chance to take a potential big time Dman in this draft with recent drafts being very forward heavy
the fact that the avs just won again makes it that much harder to troll them.. damnit. We'll see if they can keep this up all season though. Dont really care as long as the devils keep winning though
