The Pens non-GTD pre-game thread

Trying to avoid bad mojo here. I couldn't find a better place to get discussion going on this so...

Couple interesting items I read on CSN. Firstly, Neuvirth missed practice today and is questionable for the game, yet he's also apparently the likely starter if healthy. Secondly, Brouwer on the top line at practice, Knuble 2RW with 28-90.

http://www.csnwashington.com/blog/ca...14&feedID=6357

Not sure about the lines. I posed the same thought after Tampa. On one hand, Brouwer brings something to 8-19 that Knuble doesn't with the physicality and forechecking. OTOH, they lose that on the 2nd line and 28-90 are both softer than 8-19, so how's that gonna work?

I thought everyone on the second line played well individually against Tampa Bay, but there really wasn't much apparent chemistry among them. Obviously that can change with time, but the point is that I don't know if breaking up that line will prevent it from being effective in the ways it has so far.

Knuble and Johansson have also shown a lot of chemistry, although the disparity in speed is obviously significant. The first line was also terrible, so I'm really not opposed to its makeup changing.

I'm interested to see how the swap works out, because it's something I wanted to see after game 1 (eventually at least). I think Knuble will be better able to adjust to Semin's offensive game (east-west, quick passes, etc.) and he's got good chemistry with Johansson.

Even if Malkin's out, will he still do the ceremony face-off with Ovechkin?

Yeah I see him doing that. They were far too close to a lot of those guys on the team not to.

Wait Neuvy would be the starter if he was healthy? I dont like the sound of that

Bolded was my observation as well.

Don't mind Knuble on the 2nd line. Sure he is not the fastest guy but he creates havoc in front of the net and is great on the boards in the offensive zone. Could see that working.

My fantasy team supports moving Brouwer to the first line.

GD NHL Network. Means it's blacked out on GameCenter even though I can't watch it. I hate Time Warner so much.

I came here to post the same thing. The game vs. TB was blacked out too and I don't have versus. And the opener vs Carolina was choppy as ****. I mean it was worse than most "alternative" streams. I used nhl gamecenter live a couple years ago and I don't remember it being this poor.

i dont know what the fixation is with knuble and his lack of speed. he is slow and always has been. it does not effect his ability to be highly successful with fast players. his chemistry with johansson last season was obvious. they are a pair in 4 on 4 play.....for a reason.

Me either. Can't remember the last boring meeting these two teams had regardless. TV or MN in net?

Not MN, MN day to day and Holtby recalled.

Not that I would personally mind.. but would Bruce start Holtby over Vokoun tonight? I say no.. I would think that would make TK pissed.

vokoun it is then. i wouldn't have complained either way (assuming MN was healthy), but i have to admit i like the idea of vokoun getting a chance to redeem himself. pens cant be underestimated but you look up and down that lineup without 87 and 71 and vokoun should do well. at the very least, hopefully his nerves are settled and he doesn't let in any more cheesey ones.

pens are a slow-it-down, grind-it-out team, but hopefully the caps controlling play and putting together a solid win provides enough entertainment.
