Arniel has coached the CBJ in 89 games. I'll compare that to Hitchcocks last 89 games.

Arniel - 34 - 41 - 14.
Hitch - 39 - 36 - 14.

In Hitch's last 89 games, he had 5 more wins than Arniel.

Is it possible that Arniel does not have the coaching chops to coach a "cap-max" team? Is a more experienced coach needed to handle this group?

Coaches like Bylsma and Boucher don't really make this a compelling argument. Bylsma had only been an assistant in the NHL at his highest level, and Boucher had no league experience. And Both Bylsma and Boucher are doing it with generally more "established" players, Arniel has a blank slate at the NHL level with guys like Calvert, Kubalik, Savard, Johansen, Atkinson, Clitsome etc.

More than likely its not the "Cap Max" argument, but the "established way of doing things in Columbus" that Arniel is having trouble hurdling.

What we don't know is if Arniel is a good NHL coach, perios, regardles of the "kind of team" he has. There are success stories as KBW has posted, and I believed that Arniel was going to be another one. I hope so - jury's still out, IMO.

I don't think we've seen enough to know just yet. We will know when it's time though. Agents will start making negative comments for their players and they will be reported by people like Dreger, McKenzie, Kypreos, Brophy and McGuire.

Perhaps the problem has never been the coach. On the one hand, we have a new NHL coach, and on the other hand, we have a Stanley Cup champion coach. And each guy has coached the same core roster to a nearly identical record over the last 88 / 176 games.

Maybe the problem isnt Arniel or Hitch. It's time the burden of responsibility falls upon the one who assembled the talent (or lack thereof).

Hitch won't be coaching this team again, ever.

Will Arniel be the coach at the end of the 2011? Not if we aren't in the hunt by that time imo.

I dont think any reasonable person would suggest otherwise.

I don't think the issue is the coach. 2 coaches had similar results. The problem imo is the GM.
