I'm hoping Luongo has a steady game.

We should be able to dominate in the faceoff circle tonight (Giroux, Briere, and Couturier suck at faceoffs).

I'm going with a 3-2 Canucks win.
H. Sedin, Samuelsson, and Hansen with the goals.

I don't get how Hartnell is only getting 11 mins of ice time per game. If he had a lower cap hit, I wouldn't mind him on the Canucks.

P.S. I'm hoping to see Jagr get hip checked.

Looking forward to watching Jagr play. A part of me expects to lose this game, it's Philly's home opener so I imagine they'll be hot out of the gate. If we can withstand an early barrage and settle in, I say we take this. Luongo is usually shaky in October though, so it's a bit uncertain.

Still... I'll be an optimist and say 3-1 Canucks. Luongo has a good night and Simmonds scores a scrappy goal in front of the net. Hodgson gets another one as CDC board starts making Crosby comparisons, while Edler gets one on the PP and Daniel Sedin scores one even strength.

Roberto Luongo in October? In Philadelphia? No Kesler?

6-1 Flyers.

I'm actually optimistic about this game. I think we win it and 300 of my vcash says so.

Possible trap game for the Flyers. They're coming off the road with two wins to their home opener and ripe for a letdown.

3-2 Canucks with 5 minutes left. Someone hammers Sedin. The Canucks all go ****ing crazy, someone takes 2+5+10 so that they can paw at the guy that did it. Flyers score twice on the ensuing PP. Somehow people end up thinking this is a good thing. BOOK IT.

Historically the Flyers make us their...well, you know.

But last year, IIRC, the only meeting was a 7-2 thumping in Vancouver by the Canucks, was it not?

I wouldn't read too much into Alberts-over-Tanev. I think they just want to keep AA fresh, get him into some games, and also have a bit more toughness against a fairly rowdy Philly team.

AV didn't make it sound like Ballard was totally out of the question, IMO. Though Iain MacIntyre says Alberts will just play the right side.

This is the kind of game where you need Kesler. 4-1 Flyers.

I actually agree with this sentiment. The Canucks are deep on the blueline and Tanev is a rookie (not sure if he's technically a rookie THIS season). It's inevitable, I guess, when you've got a solid, physical veteran in Alberts as your spare defenseman. He, and even Rome when he returns from injury, are bound to get some games in and Tanev is bound to get some breaks out of the lineup.

I have a feeling I'm going to turn off the TV in disgust.

4-0 after the 1st.
Schneids finishes the game off

5-2 final score.
Luongo plays in Detroit tomorrow.

edit: I'm not bashing Luongo, I'm just saying that's my prediction based on nothing but my pessimism

I expect Luongo's first meltdown of the season and a huge loss. I also expect the ''it's ok because it's October and good goalies don't have to play well that month'' excuse following the game. But I hope I'm wrong, it isn't often though.
Are you a Canucks fan? I honestly can't tell from this post or your post history. Not that it matters, I'm just curious. I have no issues with other teams fans posting in GDTs.

I think I read in the Vancouver Sun that they are pushing the game back to 5pm because of the baseball finals. Any word?

Historically in Vancouver maybe but we have won the 7 or so meetings in Philly.

Yea we ***** slapped the Flyers last year, I'm pretty sure they had the Roxy Flu though.

One of the questions on TSN's quiz tonight:

On tonight's quiz, we ask, "Is Vancouver the NHL's most hated team?" What do you think?

..and it seems the Flyers dealt two of the players likely to be afflicted with that (Richards & Carter).

We won the last two games, but our record is still 3-15 and a tie.

All external factors aside...no it's not a trap game for either of these teams, it's the regular season for 2 clubs that have had to deal with big expectations in the past. The only thing they are doing know is surviving without injuries (hopeful) and beating teams. No moral victories are important here.

4-2 Flyers. I hate to be the repeat pessimist, but I think adrenaline kept us in the first two games. This is where the real struggle begins in October. Flyers come out rather weak, but once they get a few bounces, their tempo will change resulting in a 4-2 Flyers win that is more one-sided as the game goes on.

What adrenaline? The canucks have been flater than flat only to find their legs... I think this is the game they may actually have 60 minutes of hockey in them.

One negative consequence of not really playing the vets during the pre-season.
