Rank your players

How would you rank the players in the organization based on value to the team/franchise? By that I mean that value tends to get lower if a player is 35+ years despite him perhaps being the best player on the team (see MSL).

What would the top-5 look like?

This thread cannot be done with the hypothesis you present.

Marty is, and always will be, the most valuable player.

Despite him going downhill and a guy like Stamkos having his peak ahead of him?

Just curious, why would you rate Tokarski as being more valuable than Hedman?

I'm a firm believer of building from the goal out. I view Hedman as a potential franchise D-man but I also view Tokarski as a franchise goalie. His resume is too impressive and his will to win is too great to allow him to be anything less.

I don't disagree on the build from the goal out philosophy, but I think Hedman is so much further along and much more of a sure thing. For a start, Hedman is playing first pairing minutes already where as Tik has only managed to put up average numbers as a starter in the AHL so far. If it came down to who I would trade first, I think Tik is more replacable and would be chosen every time.

I completely understand your point of view but my opinion differs.

What are we talking about here? Value right now? In the next ten years? Or over the course of the individual player's career?

Exactly.

Not sure when he started to go downhill. Was it last year?

Must have been last year, because that's when he got nominated for the Hart Trophy, but didn't win it.

The voters got distracted by Corey Perry jingling his keys at the last minute.

Stamkos
Marty
Hedman
Vinny
Connolly

And I think we're watching Hedman's first season as a franchise D-man. I've been ridiculously impressed with him these first few games. If he starts putting up some points with his great defensive play, hello Mr. Norris.
