I think everyone already knows this though. My post had already acknowledged this trivial truth by pointing out that the Capitals in fact lost in the playoffs to the Penguins.

The issues I intended to raise were, primarily, the Capitals' 10-0-2 record vs. the Penguins in the regular season over the last three seasons, and, secondarily, the contrast between the Capitals being better during 10 of the 12 times they have faced them in the regular season over the last three years, and the Capitals not being better in the playoffs. I felt compelled to point this out just because it seemed like, to me--although I could be wrong about this--that one topic of conversation in this thread is the chances of the Capitals winning tonight, yet the only mention of previous recent competition between these two teams in this thread had been references to the one playoff series.

In total, the Capitals are 13-4-2 vs. the Penguins over the last three years.
I think the Pens were better than the Caps in almost every period that series.....or maybe a better way to say it would be, the Caps outplayed the Pens in only a few periods over the 7 games (some were even)

Varlamov, while giving up a bad goal almost each game, was great...MAF struggled at times....but overall play IMO was pretty heavily tilted in the Pens favor

Appears Johnson is playing tonight. Fleury is sick.

No Malkin, Crosby, Fleury?

Better be a blowout.

Any news on Oiskn and when he will be available. In other words, how much longer do we have to endure 55.

Nah! Rather see Ovie finish it off in regulation with an ENG. That always pleasures the Penguin fans when he does that.

Is erskine really going to get that much more playing time than schultz?

They played almost the same amount of games last season, Erskine 73 and Schultz 72. They are both 3rd pair defenseman, it's what Erskine brings to the game that separates him by a wide margin imho from Schultz, and that's physicality. Erskine's best season arguably was last year, so he's earned playing over Schultz once he returns.

This could be a defining game for Ovechkin. Philly has proven that lifetime contracts mean nothing.

It's funny how posting "I love Jeff Schultz" would be trolling here now. I guarantee there are people here who would try to equivocate him to TFS. It's ridiculous.

erskine played well last year, i just didn't know if you knew something i didn't that would make schultz a healthy scratch more often than not...i still don't know if they'll sit schultz becuase erskine is healthy

If ovechkin puts up 65-82 points for the rest of his career, but wins some cups here...that lifetime contract sure looks good

Come on now. Individually Backis and AO look so much better on the ice than last year. Just need to get some chemistry.

do ridiculous posts still surprise you? People call BB a clown for doing the exact things they want him to do. Its what happens

55 is at least a NHL player, TFS is not.

I cant speak for all but most of the posts that are critical of 55 (from posters I feel understand what they are talking about, whether we agree on things or not) are not that he stinks and cant play. They address his salary, the teams style and expectations, and his upside.

I don't know, sometimes I think Fleury is more capable of crapping the bed against the Caps than Johnny is (also more capable of totally stonewalling them but there you go).

If he wins a Cup here, period, and esp. if he is wearing the C when it happens, then that contract looks GREAT. The Caps are not on par w/ Cubs or, till recently, Red Sox in terms of futility, but for those who have followed them from the beginning, it sure is starting to feel like it. Whoever delivers the Cup to us will be instantly redeemed and enshrined, forever.

And from a business perspective, Ovechkin has been such a dynamic presence in DC, and league-wide, and has sold so many tix, jerseys, etc., that the contract is probably already a success in that sense, too.

Not sure who this is being pointed to...but I dont think anyone is equivocating him to Sloan. Yet.

Every team in the NHL has weak parts...pimples so to speak. Its our "thing" as fans to pick at those bad parts...those pimples...until they get infected. Then when they scab over...we pick them some more. Hideous terrible pimples that likely wouldn't draw any attention if they would be left alone...but we keep picking and picking and picking.

Sloan was a pimple last season. Now its Schultz. Two completely different pimples in terms of talent and position with the team...but still pimples. They eventually just go away.

Just the way it is.

Well, for example, you'd think Jeff Schultz fought in revolutionary war for the British, the way some people are here act.

To the guys anxiously awaiting the return of Erskine (myself included) to replace Shultz.. I think we're all going to be disappointed.. Tied up with the Lightning, going into overtime shorthanded, who gets 1st team PK duty? Shultz.. We need to face it, the org. has alot more confidence in him than we'd like to believe..

To whoever asked if it was determined who would be in goal tonight, obviously Vokoun.. Neuvi didnt even make the trip.. (Get well soon Neuvi!!)
