Jets put him on waivers, probably hoping some one picks up his contract. No one does, so now he's sort of in limo. Never any mention of him practicing with certain line combinations. So what's he doing in practice? Anyone been to a Jets practice this week? If so, where is Stapleton being slotted?
I just think that Chevy is working on putting him somewhere 'cause he's probably not going to St. John's on the one-way. I say he's either traded or he ends up playing in Europe on some type of agreement between the Jets and the European club.
He's an older guy who left his family in Atlanta when the team moved. I could see him asking to be dealt somewhere closer to them in the SE.
Plus he's making 4.5 million to be our 4th/5th defenseman.
That really wouldn't be a good idea unless we want to tank this year, and that doesn't exactly send a good message. He is our 2nd best defenseman right now and one of the leaders on the team. While I don't think he stays here long term, I'm not convinced he'll be moved before his contract ends.
Oduya on the other hand...I've thought he would have been moved by now to be honest, and I still think he'll be moved before the deadline.
I agree with Oduya at the deadline, but I'm also thinking they might try and "sell high" on a guy like Antropov if he has a great first half. I just don't see him fitting in with a young, fast team in the long term.
When the Leafs dumped him at the deadline in 2009 he got back a 2nd and a conditional 4th. Considering that he still has a year left on his deal, I think he could fetch a 2nd and a mediocre salary in return to keep us above the floor (if necessary).
Other than that I could see a minor "shake-em-up" kind of deal with a guy like Stapleton or MacLean.
