His points per minute of ice time are very high on the team at the moment. Looking like a 40-pt year for him and he seems to have a nose for timely goals. Going to need that Cup-winning experience in the playoffs.

If they re-sign Arnott I don't see how there would be room for Lehtera. Even if they don't re-sign Arnott there's a good likelihood a center is targeted in trade or free agency. And even if they don't do either of those things Berglund and McRae are still ahead of him on the organizational depth chart.

It's not impossible but there's no way without a serious jump in his skating he wouldn't get exposed in the much faster NHL. And they simply can't plan for that improvement before they see it in camp/Peoria. And Lehtera hasn't seemed willing to pay Peoria dues.

In Lehtera's case, Show Me.
If Arnott is our fourth line center next year then I would be really happy.

Well appears Lehtera broke his leg the other day in the match against Minsk Dynamo and is expected to have surgery done back in Finland.

Per Hcsibir.ru

"Today's medical examination showed that the injury was very serious. Lehterya has a broken leg. Today striker flew to Finland, where he will have an operation"

Interesting discussion about next year's centers.

Arnott is the key - and I agree there's a good chance he comes back next year. That would block McRae for another year and make Lehtera stay in Europe.

If Arnott is gone, I think McRae and Lehtera could compete for the job in camp. But Lehtera would have to make the commitment to stay in North America for at least a year (or two) to make it worth the Blues time.

Does Lehtera throw away sure money in Europe to gamble on an NHL shot? He doesn't seem inclined to do so, but maybe.

There's no use for Lehterä in the checking lines. He has skill and his passes are sometimes amazing, but if I remember correctly he is a bad skater and not physical enough to be a fourth-line center. I'd rather doubt he will never be a good NHL player.

My favourite team in Finland, Jokerit, is playing against Hakanpää's team Espoo Blues on Wednesday the 18th, i'll try to focus on him and maybe write a something to here afterwards.

Lehterä said on Jääkiekkolehti(Finnish icehockey magazine) that he's very interested of trying to get a playing spot in St. Louis. Few years ago he also said that he would be willing in AHL for 10 years if necessary but it might have been a joke. With Lehterä you never know. I'm guessing he will at least be at the training camp next fall.

It would be great for the Blues organization if Lehtera would commit to two years over here (potentially in Peoria) and see if he can make the NHL.

Wännström has been successful while playing with Järnkrok and Silfverberg. He has done that once in a while during the season, did so in the latest game and will play in that line tomorrow as well.

I'd welcome a nice jump in Wannstrom's production. Nobody ever talks about him. What do you see as his strength's and weaknesses, Pellegrino?

+ Skating, forechecking, work-rate, technically skilled, fearless, plays to win (not to "not lose"). Scores goals if he plays with good players.

- Inconsistent. Inconsistent. Inconsistent. Needs to get stronger. Can improve his defensive game a little bit too.

2 assists and the 3rd star for Teemu Eronen tonight. He's scoring points in a steady 0.5ppg pace, best scoring d-man for Jokerit.

About a month or so ago I asked about Eronen on the Finnish board, looking for a scouting report. Here was the reply:

Teemu Eronen
Defenseman
179 cm / 5'10"
82 kg / 181 lbs
11/22/1990
Jokerit Helsinki

+ good with the puck
+ good positioning
+ offensively skilled
+ good skating

- he should shoot more often
- also his shot isn't special
- sometimes "forgets" his player in defensive zone
- very thin at the moment. he has to bulk up

Future:
At best: 2nd/3rd pairing offensive defenseman in NHL
At worst: 2nd/3rd pairing offensive defenseman in the top leagues in Europe

Comparable: How was Kimmo Timonen defensive play when he was young, at the moment Timonen is elite two-way d-man but I have always liked this Timonen-lite comparison
HF rating: 6.5 C/D

Sunday morning prospect streaming (the usual site):

8am EST/7am CST/2pm RobbK – Tarasneko's first game with SKA St. Pete.
9am EST/8am CST/3pm RobbK – Jaskin in a Slavia Prague* game.

Weekend updates:
–Rattie: No points Friday and only a goal Saturday. God that kid sucks.
–Schwartz: Three assists in two games against St. Cloud.
–Tesink: still not back from his 4-6wk knee injury suffered late Nov.

*Retardedly, I have been looking for "Slavia Praha" and not seeing it.

A goal for Hakanpää yesterday again. Now he has 5+5 in 29 games and +5 (3rd best in his team)

The league-leading Aces (29-5-5), meanwhile, have won nine straight games, tying their second-longest winning streak in nine ECHL seasons. They have not lost in regulation in 13 games (10-0-3), tying the second-longest such streak in those nine seasons and matching a streak from earlier this season. They also have won 10 straight home games at Sullivan Arena, which is their third-longest such streak in the ECHL.

Also, they have earned points in 26 of the last 27 games, going 21-1-5 in that stretch.

Max Gardiner... What do you guys think of him? Will he play in the NHL? If so, when? What do you expect?

Cheers!

Abysmal post-draft development, don't think anyone who follows Blues prospects would put him in their top 20.

Max Gardiner... What do you guys think of him? I think he made a very bad decision trying to go from HS hockey straight to a fairly deep U of Minn team. He should've gone to a lesser program or if he really wanted to go to U of Minn, he should've spent a year in the USHL first IMO. He was a healthy scratch most of his freshman season as he just wasn't ready for college hockey yet and "demoted" himself to the USHL this season where he's still not producing much. Going from HS hockey straight to a top NCAA program was too big of a jump for him but being a Minny kid I'm sure it was a dream of his to play for U of Minn but he should've spent a year in the USHL first IMO and seriously hurt his development by trying to make that big of a jump.

Will he play in the NHL? If so, when? I seriously doubt it at this point.

hat do you expect? I expect him to go back to college hockey next season, maybe with U if Minn or perhaps another program where he might get more of an opportunity, but either way I expect him to be an ok college player eventually but I wouldn't expect him to develop into a legit NHL prospect at this point.

Eronen has 2+1 after two periods today. Quite remarkable how many points he has considering how crap his shot is supposed to be.

Edit: finished with 2+2, Jokerit won 6-5 in OT.

Eronen now has 21 points in 34 games. Last season he had 13 in 48 so quite an improvement there. He actually has as many points (in two less games) as his teammate Ilari Filppula who scored 64 points in the AHL with the rather bad Grand Rapids Griffins last year.
