When you disengage with the player and cover your face to protect yourself, you are bowing out of the fight. It doesn't mean he turtled. It just means he disengaged with Abdelkader.

And he threw a punch after disengaging. That is the truth.

I'm not sticking up for Lappy at all, as I am not a fan of him or his team one bit. However, I do have to say whats right. Lappy threw some nice punches at the start of the fight, and it wasn't until Abby got a few good hits in that he fell to his knees like that. The fight happened out of nowhere, thats probably why the whole thing wasn't on camera.

My hate for Lapierre goes long before his Canuck days - but he keeps it alive there too on a lesser level.

It was great seeing him get that however, not enough landed for my liking.

Anyways, pathetic attempt by the OP regarding this thinly vieled lapierre bash thread. Especially when others have pointed out that we don't clearly see how it commenced to a point where abelkader has already began "wailing" on him.

ummm so it's chicken to do that but it is brave, honorable and manly to throw punches at a guy who is on his kness ?

Good to know.

Doesn't matter. It's safe to assume he deserved it.

it's also safe to assume the fight started on even ground. lapierre's gloves are off. Oh I suppose he could have possibly been just kneeling on the ice minding his own business with his gloves off when he was mugged out of nowhere but how likely is that? It's a lot more likely he started standing up and Abdelkader beat him down to his knees (or otherwise caused him to go down to his knees) I know you have to try to defend Lapierre as a Canuck fan but be reasonable.

A friend of mine told me from his hospital bed that he thought it was safe to assume he didn't need to slow down for a four-way back-country courtesy intersection.

Sounds to me like that's what happened. I'm just having a hard time recognizing how that's a shameful act on Lappy's part. I know Lappy is not the most appreciated player in the NHL, but in this case, I just don't see it.

How did it start exactly?
The rule of thumb on HF in situations like this is that whatever the Canuck player did was the wrong thing.

Ah who cares if he got beat on while he was on his knees?

It's only Lapierre.

Ahh, just like how it's safe to assume Crosby deserved to get hit in the head.

I find it hard for anyone with sense to defend someone like Lapierre. The person who was at the game described what happened. We all saw the video. I didn't realize we needed Grand Jury-quality proof for a Canucks player to have anything remotely negative said about them.

No, more like most know that Lapierre probably did something typical of himself right before this and someone was finally able to tag him a couple times before he got to full turtle mode.

For me it's got nothing to do with with the Canucks...

It was great to see that yo-yo get pummeled. What is it about the Canucks that they sign all these disgusting ******** to their team anyways?

I enjoy how many people are outraged that Lapierre threw a punch with the refs in after a guy was just unloading on him after he was knocked to his knees.

Anyway, Lapierre sucks at fighting. Not news.

Love how he goes back to yapping while the refs are in between them. I can't stand him, especially after his antics in the finals.

The hate in this thread is disgusting. From what I've seen/read, they both agreed to fight as indicated by the dropped gloves, lapierre lost his footing fairly quickly and fell to his knees, abdelkader continues to throw punches at a player in a vulnerable position who then tries to defend himself until the refs finally stop him. At which point lappy throws a half hearted muffin of a punch to express his unhappiness at being pounded after the fight was clearly decided.
All last year the dude gets hated on for never dropping the gloves, and now that he's dropped them twice in the last 5 games people start hating cause he fell down in a fight and tried to protect himself. Yet all y'all are painting lappy as the player whose actions were most reprehensible in that fight?
And yes, I am insinuating that going welsh on a dude who's on the ice protecting his face instead of fighting back is not considered fighting clean.
The only thing lappy did wrong there was fall over. Personally I give the dude credit for showing a willingness to fight this year.

Honest question, if Abdelkader was on his knees, would the honorable Lappy stop throwing punches? I think not.

This fight summed up the game as a whole pretty well.
The Wings just pounding the Canucks.
