Very much agree with this and Leddy as previously mentioned.

Montador's kind of proof that when it comes to veteran guys you can't always judge what happens in preseason games. Very unimpressive there and has been much improved the past two games. O'Donnell comes as advertised; just a rock solid anchor and from everything you hear in the media with the guys giving him crap about his age and whatnot a great dressing room guy.

Leddy's looked really good. Looks more confident with the puck than last year and confidence seems to continue to grow. He even pulled a little spin-o-rama action in the neutral zone a-la Campbell. Just really like seeing his confidence continue to grow. That's huge for a young defenseman.

Bickell - Bolland - Frolik are picking up where they left off. They're going to be at Ladd - Bolland - Havlat level shortly if they keep this up.

That would be fantastic. Definitely like how they get it done.

As for Emery, he was good eough to get us the win. Re-directs are hard to get, and even that second redirect was wide of the net, and was a hell of a tip-in. Glad he got his first win out f the way early this season.
1st: Kane
2nd: Hossa
3rd: Slater

Kind of irrelevant considering the cap space we have.

Thanks Massive.

I really liked Bickell's play today. Had some really big hits. Seemed to be a little snakebit on a couple of goal chances, but was at least getting to the right places at the right time. If he keeps that up he should start getting results soon.

I really like the kane-hossa thing and I absolutely love the way our third line looks when Bickell plays physically.

Yeah but I think old Stanley wants to save that space for some deadline deals. He mentioned that in the off season.

Not the most flashy win but we'll take the 2 points. Emery was ok and made a couple saves when he needed to(the Ladd one comes to mind). The 3rd goal was gross. The 1st line was invisible the whole night(with exception of the first PP). The other lines where all great.

Hopefully he can make a splash. Either another top 6 winger or a hard-nosed bottom forward would put this team over the top.

I wasn't actually advocating bringing Turco back though. It was a joke.

Liked what I saw - most of the time.

Emery wasn't as bad as some make it look like, but he wasn't as solid as some said.
We should have signed a BU Goalie that played the last years and is just solid (Garon, Boucher, Auld)

Leddy with another good game

Toews took the night off

Kane with Hossa is working but Toews + Sharp look lost together on a line with Brunette.
Brunette should only be in the Bottom 6 with PP1 Time

Seems like I work every time there's a Hawks game on. Caught most on the radio. (wgn app ftw)...

How is Olesz looking? I know he surprisingly had a great preseason.

And watching some of the highlights it looked like Emery didn't face too many tough shots, could be wrong. I still can't decide whether Emery is better than Turco. I feel like for as bad as Turco is he wouldn't have let at least 2 out of those 3 goals in.

Couple thoughts...

Still LOVING Kane at C, and he's really surprising me on the dot. Not saying I expect it to continue, but I'll take it for now. With Kane's finese, Hossa's overpowering ability, and the grit from Carcillo... This could be my favorite line if they stay together.

Keith looked good on offense, but lost on defense. He really needs to get his **** together.

Leddy looked awesome again. Loved how he absorbed the hit behind Emery (2nd period?) from two Peggers, instead of throwing it around which would have almost certainly been a turnover.

I really wish Kruger would just go to Rockford already.

Me too. The talent is obviously there, but IMO it's just too early for Kruger. A couple month in Rockford would be good for him.

After the return of Smith and Stalberg I would like to see the following lines:
Brunette - Toews - Sharp
Carcillo - Kane - Hossa
Bickell - Bolland - Frolik
Stalberg - Smith - Mayers

If the top line doesn't work like last night, we could try Stalberg there instead of Brunette. Stalberg had a great preseason and had good chemistry with Toews.

I would go with

Stalberg - Toews - Sharp
Brunette - Kane - Hossa
BiBoFro
Carcillo - Mayers - Smith (or Smith Center)

Where do you put Bruno then? I really don't want to mess up that second line, they were awesome last night. 3rd line definitely can't be messed up either, and Bruno really isn't a 4th line guy. The only thing that I could see working, is moving Kane back to wing, up with Toews and Sharp. However, I don't see how anyone can say they'd want that to happen, given how awesome Kane has looked as the #2 C.

So do you agree that Kruger should actually be in Rockford? I need to actually see you type it out!

I agree. What's the big deal about moving to the post game thread when it is over? By reading some of that game thread crap, you'd think Emery let in 10 goals. If CC had of been in net, it would be classified as another solid effort!

Although I agree the jury is still out on Emery, especially in his lateral movement but he fought for the win and got it. And maybe some folks should be reminded that CC is not the strongest in his lateral movement either. Even on the 3rd goal last night, Emery cannot take all of the blame. Hawks dmen stood around and not a single Jet player was put on their arse in front of him.

Anyone that thinks the Hawks played even close to a good game last night are disillusioned. A weak Jets team made them look good at times, but this team will get their butts kicked if they play like that against a contender.

Yep, Bickell was a bright light.... the entire line continues to impress. Carcillo is a welcome addition, if he continues to play like that. Not sure what was going on with 10 and 19 last night. I think Sharp's timing is still not there yet and Toews had a poor game. 7 and 2 weren't much better.

Well, I have to agree that your lineup actually looks better than mine.

But after Carcillos great game and seeing the 2nd line click out there it's hard to split those guys.

Agreed. 13 needs to keep playing with 88 and 81.... but knowing Q, I won't be surprised to see Carcillo playing in Brunettes spot as well. It won't be long before he sees action on all 4 lines, in fact.... but Q said that from the moment we picked him up. It is the beauty of being gritty, a pest and with talent to boot.

I hate to break up the third line, but wouldn't Frolik fit in better with Toews and Sharp on the first line than Brunette does?

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. If it comes to fruition our top 9 will be just as deep if not deeper than two years ago.

Also I hate Brunette on the first line...he's too slow to keep up with Toews/Sharp. I compare him to a smarter, more balanced (literally) Kopecky. The problem is that lines 2/3 look good and he's certainly not a 4th liner. Nice to have an actual net presence on the PP too.
