If Wang wants a deal done he should make it known he is talking to Queens.
If this knowledge comes out, then Nassau will start to move their tails to keep the Isles there.
Then Wang can play both sides agaisnt the middle while working on getting the best deal he can either in Nassau or Queens (or Brooklyn)
Jeff Wilpon told Newsday he had discussions with Wang in May 2010 and TOH still ***** down the Lighthouse zoning. I don't think TOH really cares. As far as Nassau is concerned, after the referendum had failed, Wang likely said no to any private funding of a new Coliseum.
"Charles Wang is committed to the Island, is committed to the Islanders. He's devoted almost a decade of his life and tens of millions of dollars in pursuit of this, and fortunately there are a few years left. They're not going to stay in the Nassau Coliseum no matter what. We're going to need to come up with a solution somehow, somewhere." I refuse to accept that this team is not going to get a new building at some point," Bettman said. Bettman said his definition of Long Island extends to Queens, where he called the area around Citi Field "an interesting location" and "not the craziest thing I've ever heard." He also mentioned interest in the team from Suffolk County.

After watching the Winnipeg game, Canadian cities care alot more about hockey and fill the arena. At this point, it would be better for the FRANCHISE if Wang sold the team to the highest bidder and walked away with a check. I mean, he is burning the franchise down with the restictions and orders he lays down.
Oh I agree about Nassau being in a coma. But I want them to stay there at all cost, BUT I am totally okay with Wang giving Nassau the finger.
I want the Islanders to stay in NY.. Whether its Nassau/Queens or Brooklyn ill be happy. I am against Suffolk county but if its between Suffolk and Quebec then hello Suffolk!!
If I was Wang, Nassau county should be like Fredo in Lake Tahoe - your dead to me!

They're not going to stay in Nassau Coliseum no matter what.....well, if he makes the most money in a dump or can rent space in Brooklyn while the Queens drama unfolds, where should he play? Would you throw away money to make a statement or go year to year until Queens opened up? (or Nassau got good leadership - like that would ever happen)
I swear, Bettman's mom must really wish things turned out differently. He's such a schmuck.
CLOCKS TICKING!!! Tick tock tick tock Nassau. WAKE UP before it too late!!!
Bettman is such a tool. 2015 or else! Or else what? Come 2015 the Islanders will be right where they are today, the Charming and Historic NVMC. Thanks Wanger!

I'd like to think this is a public person hinting for nassau to FINALLY get their act together and give a concrete plan instead of pie in the sky joke proposals but we know nassau and TOH don't care about NYI anyway so the point is moot.
Bettman mentions Queens, Botta's blog (when it was valid) brings up Queens and gets 400 posts in 1 day to go there, a petition here to move NYI to Queens gets 400 signatures in a few days and this thread is mostly a go to Queens sentiment. Basically everyone with a brain sees and wants this..... and no word from Wang. Not even as a leverage threat. Unbelievable.
For everyone now saying it's time to leave nassau, it was time years ago. And it certainly was time after Murray killed the LHP and if Wang wasn't inquiring on 8/2 about leaving then he's wackier than we think..if that's possible.
Bettman never mentioned Brooklyn (which GQ just named the coolest city on the planet as opposed to nassau which was called "the worst run county in the nation" once by the Maxwell School of Public Affairs - the top research institute on such matters)
Bklyn would be better for me as it's a few subway stops and 15 minutes from where I spend most of my time in lower Manhattan but I'd still rather NYI end up in Queens as it's the best thing for the franchise. Gary's on board. But fat Kate once called him that hockey guy, Wang is counting pennies stalling and Crazy Eddie Mangano's proposals are insane so the drama continues.........

The leverage threat. That's where I was going with this post:

Problem is, we have no idea if Wang is working anything behind the scenes.

He already made that threat back in May 2010 when he got Jeff Wilpon talking to Rangers owned Newsday and TOH didn't flinch. I think he knows those kind of threats will not convince TOH. I think Nassau County is more concerned at the top level but their hands are tied as well after the August 1 refendum failed. If Wang is working on a plan to move the team to Queens, he will likely announce it out of blue IF he reaches an agreement with Mets. The fact that SNY Islander Point blank has NOT mentioned any Islanders arena situation articles since Botta left MAY be an indication these two are working behind the scenes. Couple that with black 3rd Islander jerseys, plastering of North Shore LIJ (where Saul katz is the Chair of the Board) after Crains New York said Wang showed no interest in Willets Point Phase 1, one could draw a conclusion the Isles and Mets are talking. But WHAT are they talking about?

Yes I know. I even said as much above and 100 times that nassau/TOH doesn't care. The difference now is since May 2010, the 8/1 referendum lost and RFP's were done for WP and now the leverage for WP or Citi's parking lot in Queens can be used against Brooklyn, Suffolk, Belmont as well as an uninterested nassau/uniondale.
In addition, May 2010 wasn't a full-fledged make it publicly aware that Wang was seriously talking with Wilpon threat. If you remember, the quote was something like Wilpon saying he'd be "interested in having NYI in Queens but it's all up to the NYI owner" or words to that effect. There was never any confirmation from Wang. That's what is needed.
That's not the latest proposal - it's just a slideshow of pics from (with a link to an article about) the unsolicited proposal from a bunch of developers (Association for a Better Long Island) back in September.
The recent articles (which include the full Economic Development proposal submitted to the state) do not seem to be behind a paywall:

Remember if a new arena is to be built in the Citifield parking lot then the WP project has zero affect on the arena. But as far as I am concerned Queens is just a fantasy.

......Only because Wang is on Fantasy Island and doesn't know what he's doing.

You could be dead on, but let's see what happens in the next 12 months.

"Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead), who represents the area surrounding the Hub, expressed skepticism. Nassau owns the Coliseum land and collects annual revenue from the New York Islanders, whose lease at the Coliseum expires in 2015. Abrahams said it's unclear if that arrangement would continue at Belmont."
question for Mr. Abrahams: what's the likelihood that that arrangement will continue when the Islanders are in Queens?
The new pro shop, which will carry all kinds of hockey equipment, opens Sunday, Oct. 30
Saturday, 10.29.2011 / 9:37 AM / News By Cory Wright
Share The New York Islanders are expanding their presence eastward on Long Island as the team is opening a new Pro Shop in Suffolk County this Sunday, Oct. 30.
To celebrate the grand opening at the Dix Hills Ice Rink in Huntington, special guests will be dropping by all day long. Travis Hamonic and Matt Martin will participate in a clinic with local children. Islanders Ice Girls and Sparky the Dragon will join fans in a free, open skate and the pro shop if offering exclusive discounts.
Not to be confused with the recently opened team store at Nassau Coliseum, the Pro Shop at Dix Hills will primarily offer equipment such as skates (both figure and hockey), sticks and pads as well as sharpening services. Being an Islanders fan, while encouraged, is not a requirement to shop...
The team is excited about venturing into Suffolk County and reaching out to young hockey fans. A grassroots connection between fans and players is one way to generate younger fans’ interest in the team.
“We have a partnership with the town of Huntington to have the pro shop at the rink and to help grow hockey in the community,” Murray said.
This article COULD be an indication the Isles are looking into Suffolk for their new home post 2015 as they're trying to expand their fan base in Suffolk county. A downer, however, is that the Dix Hills shop is NOT an Islanders shop.

or it could be that they just opened up a shop and got a good deal on the rent

The team didn't move to Nova Scotia FWIW. Or China.
So the bond that the taxpayers voted down for the hub is coming anyway. Article in Newsday says NIFA. Is going to give Nassau 450 million dollars. The catch is that it must come back in the form of more taxes for the residents. I wonder how the people who voted against the new Coliseum feel now. *******s.
