Public unions and Nassau lawmakers clashed Friday over an agreement between County Executive Edward Mangano and a state control board to borrow up to $450 million during the next four years while instituting $150 million in labor cuts.

On Thursday, the Nassau Interim Finance Authority, a state monitoring board with oversight of the county's finances, said it would allow Mangano to borrow to fund property tax refunds, court judgments and termination pay.

"NIFA may have agreed to allow the borrowing, but they did not agree to foot the bill that they and the Republicans leave as their October gift to property taxpayers," said Legis. Kevan Abrahams (D- Hempstead ).

Presiding Officer Peter Schmitt (R- Massapequa ) said the bonding allows the county to reduce its backlog of assessment cases, saving Nassau $100 million annually. "We can eliminate the assessment mess and not raise taxes," Schmitt said...

The legislature will vote on the budget and amendments offered by Democrats and Republicans on Sunday at 7 p.m.

People who have the final say in Nassau do NOT give a damn about the Isles. It is a kick in the ass, but that's the truth.

Is wang hiding in the wings?

Look who reappeared for the Ronkonkoma Hub Project:

Four local developers submitted applications by a Friday deadline to redevelop the 50 acres around the Ronkonkoma train station into a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly community.

The Beechwood Organization of Jericho, R Squared Real Estate Partners of Melville, Renaissance Downtowns LLC of Plainview and TRITEC Real Estate Company of East Setauket all responded to Brookhaven's request for qualifications, issued in September.

Renaissance Downtowns is partnering with multinational developer Jones Lang LaSalle and Uniondale's RXR Realty on its application, Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko said.

The next step is for Brookhaven's design committee to recommend a developer by Dec. 7. The town board is likely to vote on the recommendation at its final meeting of the year on Dec. 13. At the same time, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is expected to decide which regional projects, including the Hub, get a portion of $200 million in state funding.

If Wang is working on a plan to move the team to Queens, he will likely announce it out of blue IF he reaches an agreement with Mets. The fact that SNY Islander Point blank has NOT mentioned any Islanders arena situation articles since Botta left MAY be an indication these two are working behind the scenes. Couple that with black 3rd Islander jerseys, plastering of North Shore LIJ (where Saul katz is the Chair of the Board) after Crains New York said Wang showed no interest in Willets Point Phase 1, one could draw a conclusion the Isles and Mets are talking. But WHAT are they talking about?
Probably a way to just finally kill me once & for all.

Doesn't look like Wang nor Picker is involved with Renaissance Downtowns

Unless Beechwood Homes who is developing on Wang's land in Plainview is getting Wang involved, it looks like Wang has no interest in Ronkonkoma Hub project. Even if he was interested, I don't know how he could build a new arena for the team in that location.

New York Islanders owner Charles Wang is handing over the right to build on his 144 acres of Plainview property to home builder Michael Dubb, of the Beechwood Organization in Jericho...

Pro Shop Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Success
The Islanders branch out to Suffolk County, open Pro Shop at Dix Hills Ice Rink
Sunday, 10.30.2011 / 8:19 PM / News By Dyan LeBourdais

At about 5 p.m., Frank Petrone, Supervisor for the Town of Huntington, blew a whistle to garner everyone’s attention and made a brief speech, signifying the opening of the shop.

“This is really a milestone for us,” Petrone said. “I’ve been working to get a new rink here and to redo this old rink for 15 years. It’s been my dream to professionalize this rink and to make it available to leagues and teams at various levels, figure skaters as well. Having the Islanders here is a stamp of approval.”

Well, SNY coverage is arguably better than Newsday despite its limitations (minus specific arena articles in the last 2 months), so let's see what happens.

Stan just said on the Devils pregame he knows of meetings that are taking place to get money for Wang for new NVMC and he predicts they stay in Uniondale.

I'd love for another source to confirm this...Stan doesn't seem to have all of his ducks in a row sometimes. I'm also annoyed by Stan's attempt at getting DiPietro, Grabs, and JT to comment on the flubbed call on Saturday...which would have led to fines from the league. He just wouldn't stop plugging away at them...and that kinda tells me he's a bit overeager to get a scoop.

He'll probably also report that Peca and Jonsson are due back soon...

I really wouldn't take what Stan says nowadays with too much faith.

I can't take that seriously, if just Stan says that. I need to hear another source, because Stan sometimes says a lot of ridiculous things. Hopefully, this wasn't one of them, but hopefully later we hear something like this from another source.

Didn't Stan make the same type of positive inside information comment a couple of years ago with the Lighthouse???

But whatever, any news is good news... I guess....

Stan is a nice enough guy, but I take his claims as serious as if I read them in the Enquirer.

Unless he got that tip from a non-Ranger sources (ie: who is NOT linked to the Rangers in any shape or form), I can't trust him.

I think Stan believes if the Islanders moved to Brooklyn or Queens, they'd be encroaching on the Brooklyn Americans.

Stan also predicted the Rangers to win the Cup the past 10 years. He's a few cards short of dealing with a full deck these days.

In other news, Stan's latest book SUBWAYS FOR DUMMIES is available in paperback and number 432 on the NY Times best seller list.

Also it could be because Stan works for the Rangers who don't want ANYTHING with the Islanders moving into NYC limits.

Stan has no idea, I heard this morning on Boomer and Carton that the Mets/Wilpons lost 70 million dollars last year and stand to lose another 50 million this year because of everything that went on with Madoff. They can't even afford to offer Reyes a contract. Personally I think they are going to sink to late 90's Isles types of teams soon because of this. They are just taking a beating over there and I doubt it would be in Wang's best interest to get involved in that.

Well, they do have a new arena.

Have they sold it out this year at all? 14th in attendance and dropping.

But then again, new arena, higher ticket prices and bad management will do that.

Hard to believe given the current state of the Mets that, unless it cost them nothing i.e. Wang pays for the arena and the city pays for the parking, that the Wilpons would have any interest..then again

Hard to believe given the current state of Nassau that there is any hope there

Hard to believe that Wang would try and shoe horn the team into Brooklyn

Hard to believe that the team would move to Suffolk

So come 2016 the historic and quaint NVMC will live on!

BTW the seats I have this year, the seats right next to each other.....seat number six and seat number eleven. My wife finally noticed last Saturday, when she innocently asked me why seat number six is right next to seat number eleven I replied "Oh thats Nassau county/Charles Wang math" She said "huh?" I sat down and laughed.

HAHAHA

This same issue caused pretty serious disagreement in the seats next to mine for the Pens game. Apparently the seats were numbered 9,10,11,10,9. It made for quite an interesting, "Excuse me I think you are in my seats."

Because Boomer & Carton are now Ernst & Young? Deloitte & Touche? Pricewaterhouse?

Because the Wilpons and Wang could be the only players in Queens?

Wilpons will recover most of their money from Madoff due to a recent ruling, the question is when. Since NYM have been in top 5 payroll for years, even if they lowered it they'd still pay out more than most other teams. As opposed to Cheap Charly in nasty nassau with how low they can go.

But were you able to get back up and out of your seat? The combination of sticky stuff that's on the floor that never gets cleaned can put Crazy Glue out of business.

True story, last game I was at my nephew's seat broke as the back fell off. He ended up giving the guy behind him an unwanted lap dance with his head and back of the seat.

The place is an absoulute DUMP. Yup, great sightlines with great history but a real DUMP.

Apparently the Wilpons have reached a settlement on one of the Madoff lawsuits

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...ars-settlement

I had heard that the Wilpons had thrown a wrench into the Einhorn deal once they got word that they would be able to settle the entire Madoff mess at a relatively reasonable cost. I don't think its a stretch to assume that as they have settled the first lawsuit they expect to do the same with the larger suit.

The seat cushion on one of the seats is so worn you feel the metal frame that supports it. At 6' 4" 180 lbs I don't consider myself very heavy!
