I've played in St. Cloud's. It's a dump both inside and out.
Agreed. Though, the Mariucci is certainly no treat. If the Gophers didn't have the history element everywhere in that building, that arena isn't looked at in the same light if you're just taking each building strictly for what they are.

But that's what makes it and the same reason why the X took many cues from Mariucci. It needs a better scoreboard and does have that older utilitarian feel like most Minnesota stadiums from the era but the combination of history, every seat being a great seat (sorry Madison) and no gimmicks/just hockey works for me.

Couple games, muuuch nicer. Hate the 'random' pattern of Maroon/Gold seats though. Still is kindof 'steep' which I like in an arena that small, it makes it easy to see everything. Also the student section is huge. Its the normal place, opposing goalie's end, but it contains both an upper and lower bowl, with benches instead of chairs, so its pretty packed. It also doesn't look so depressing.

Hey, that's my dump dang it. Thankfully it's being renovated soon. Definitely not the worst arena I've been in. Kato's sucks and Tech's rink isn't much either. Hockey is hockey though and I've watched games in converted airline hangers freezing my butt off. Still fun.

Kato's arena is what you'd expect for a town that looks at hockey like it's more complicated than Quantum Physics.
That's the perk of having gone to the U for two years but getting my degree from MSU. Got the good learning from the latter and I can root for the former's hockey team!

It needs to be renovated badly. The NHC comes from that 80s architecture of concrete and dredge like the Metrodome and just shows it. They also deserve it after Duluth got a new rink (which was also needed but I did like the DECC for its uniqueness) along with Bemidji.
All I can say is give me a single bowl arena anytime. The cheap seats at the X give me vertigo, and you feel like you are looking down on the proceedings. The old Met Center, if any of you were old/lucky enough to go there, was a GREAT place to watch a game, and I think I'd like Mariucci for the same reasons.
This previous weekend, both teams (Huskies and UNH) ordered take-out from my work after the game. Broke up the monotony of my day, and gave me an excuse to discuss hockey with my co-workers.
