You'd think along with a possible lockout in the NHL that should be another reason Bjugstad should come back. I honestly don't think he's ready for the NHL yet, his defensive game leaves a lot to be desired.

EDIT: As for Bjugstad, I'd guess that he plays for the Gophs for the season, and whenever he's done he goes to play for Florida for a handful of games. Just a wild guess from someone who has never seen him play in person, but I think it would make sense for his development.

Depends on the goaltending. No more Patterson.

Wilcox is going to be good, he will probably share starts with Shibrowski at the beginning but take over the starting role by the end of the year.

Not for another two years.

And yes, on paper they're favorites but the game isn't played on paper.

He'll also be sheltered by the offense and D, which should help.

They didn't have any defensemen of note make the jump, did they?

Essentially they just have to replace Hansen, Mattson and Patterson?

Return everyone on defense and add Brady Skjei (Rangers' first round pick) and Mike Reilly (who put up similar numbers at Penticton to WCHA Rookie of the Year Joey LaLeggia).

It will be interesting to see who loses playing time on the blue line this year. Alt, Schmidt, and Helgeson are basically locks to play every day but Holl, Parenteau, and Marshall will really have to step up if they want to play over these freshmen.

I think Marshall is pretty safe. I liked his game a lot last year.

Eh he frustrated me a lot defensively. He did get a lot better as the year went on though which is encouraging. Credit to him and Mike Guentzel, lord knows we wouldn't have seen that improvement with Hill around.

Badgers should be good. They were a young team last year, started two freshman goalies, bring back Zengerle, Barnes, McCabe and really only lose Justin Schultz. There were points at the end of last season where it looked like Wisconsin gelled together.

Very true. But I gotta hate Wisconsin in something. They're going to have the Packers, and I have to rub it in their faces some other way. Even though Gophers football has more national championships. By a wide margin.

Obviously great news that Bjugstad is back, he really solidifies the Gophers as the top team ad a major contender going into next year, but i think he's also very smart by doing this. Not only is education great, but he gets more time to work on his game not just offensively, but defensively, nobody talks about his defense, but at his size he should be more impactful on the defensive side of the rink as a centerman, so hoping to see him take some strides in that as well.

Otherwise, great to have him back, less then a 100 days to the Gopher season starts!

I wish Moorhead State was getting into D1 hockey so I had a horse in this race.

Anyone else surprised FSN hasn't announced whose calling Gopher hockey games yet? Think they are trying to wait for the most possible attention by the local media to be averted elsewhere so they can announce Gorg as the guy?
