Also in case anyone cares and is watching the gopher game, apparently FSN just said the UMD game is 0-0. Its not. UMD is up 5-0 over Alaska Anchorage.

Holy crap didn't know Shibby was the Gophers backup before tonight, man I miss the Gopher games, glad to hear they are playing well and Rau is being a beast. I remember watching his brother Chad in highschool and I was happy the Wild had him for a bit but he never quite had the elite goal scoring abilities of Kyle. I think that was a good pick by Florida to get him.

Good split.

We need the U, UW and UND to all be really good again. These games are fun.

Does anybody know why Denver and CC only played 1 game this weekend?

Denver plays again tonight, if I'm not mistaken. I read it somewhere but can't remember where.

And UND should be good next season, they're a pretty young squad right now. Don't know much about the Badgers' future though.

They have another one-game series with CC in a month but I'm not sure why that's the case. Maybe it has to do with CC's block schedule.

Wisconsin is sort of similar to UND in that they lost a lot of players. However, I think they might be ****ed for another year or two because their best defenseman (Schultz) is gone after this year. UND still has a chance of turning things around as the addition of Grimaldi gives them a much needed second scoring line.

Scsu is shorthanded due to injuries. There will be a lot of fight in that team but if the Gophers play their game it darn well should be a sweep.

Got to give them credit - SCSU made the most of their opportunities and Faragher stood tall for most of the night.

Other thoughts:
-The third goal summed things up well - Budish made a good backcheck, then sat around as Patterson gave up a rebound right to his guy (Dowd). Minnesota had opportunities but they didn't give that extra effort until it was too late.

-Watched the game with my roommates and a few of their friends (so it ended up being 2 guys and 6 girls) - interesting to get the 23-26 female opinion of Gopher hockey. In short, UMN-SCSU was more interesting than the Wild and Russo's fashion choice was skewered.

Kent Patterson has six shutouts in 14 games. How ridiculous is that?

I'm not sure what is more ridiculous, Bjugstad or Patterson.

As for the weekend, I predicted a sweep but credit SCSU, they buried their chances Friday night. Gophers had a few defensive breakdowns and it cost them. Meanwhile, Gophers couldn't take advantage of multiple odd man rushes.

Saturday night was fun to watch. So nice to be able to dagger a team like that on Saturday.

How about those UMD Bulldogs surging after that terrible start?

Feels good man.
Kenny has been playing better, not at Patterson levels but he's been pretty solid.

And to think Colorado gave up 1st rounder(s) for a schleb Russian, with this guy ready to step in...

I wouldn't say their start was terrible. Getting swept at home isn't good but UMD still played well in all three losses and they were to the #1 and #4 teams this week.

They're still the Gophers opponent I've been most impressed with.

Varlamov cost a 1st and a 2nd wasn't it?

Dominating at the college level is good, but that's not nearly enough for a goalie to be expected to just step in at the NHL level. Varlamov is at the very least a servicable NHL goalie, and he's ready to play now.

I thought it was pretty bad being at both of those games. giving up the lead with 2 min left in one, and still losing while out-shooting them 50-16. bad defense, we turned it around now though

North Dakota says it will no longer use the Fighting Sioux name or logo as of Jan. 1, 2012, asks to be known simply as North Dakota after.

Hockey team will continue wearing Sioux jerseys, as their new jerseys won't be in until near the end of the regular season.

Don't forget the Braves, Vikings, 49ers, Packers, and Lakers.

Oh wait. I forgot only "Native Americans" are "protected" by that rule.

What rule is that? The NCAA is behind the push to eliminate the name, and they obviously have no jurisdiction over professional teams. The Braves definitely have a Native American logo, too. Was there some reason you included them?

Personally, I think they should go back to Flickertails.

Not advocating the name change, but couldn't they could at least adopt a more politically correct name? North Dakota sounds vanilla-lame. No identity at all.
