With all the **** talk that goes on towards Luongo around here, I want an accurate indication of where the majority of our fans actually rank him in terms of NHL goaltenders. We have a tendency to be hardest on our own, but will that reflect when push comes to shove and we actually have to peg Luongo onto a list, or is the fanbase here so put off by him that he actually ranks somewhere outside the top 10?
Only way to find out for sure is to rank. Each poll will last for a day or two (or until there's a clear runaway winner for that poll) upon which a new thread will be started (much like the Canucks prospects poll we run). The polling will end once Luongo has won a poll and is ranked.
This is basically a litmus test for me to see if our fans as a whole are as out to lunch as I fear they might be.
So the question is as follows:
Ignoring salary, age, cap hit, and any other factors besides play alone, which goaltender would you choose for your team to win right now assuming all teams are equal and the only difference between any of them would be the goaltender?
For me it's Luongo. I know a lot of people will vote Lundqvist and he'll likely win the poll, but the guy just hasn't done anything to suggest to me that he's better than Luongo.
Their stats are very, very close, but in my mind Luongo has accomplished more in the same time frame that they have both been in the league.
Also, I am very familiar with Lundqvist. I've owned him in my hockey pools for years now and so I follow his stats on a game by game basis. He is not as great as people make him out to be. More often than not, he's an average goalie. He has the ability to absolutely steal a game though and you see that with his shutouts. But when he's not shutting out the competition he is giving up a lot of 3 goal games.
Last year, for example, Lundqvist had 33 games where he gave up 3 or more goals. Compare that to only 22 for Luongo. Lundqvist would be ripped apart if he were a Canuck.

I told ya so. I was right all along!
Lundqvist is probably the most loved person on these boards. He's played pretty well since he came over since the lockout, but people seem to ignore his playoff statistics because his team has never had any huge expectations since then.
They play a very defensive style which does pad his stats a bit, but he's no better than Rinne or Price who have had very similar circumstances, yet Rinne last year was able to go as far into the playoffs as Lundqvist has, with less to work with against one of the more reputable playoff teams in the past few seasons. The only teams they've blown by in the playoffs were a less than spectacular Thrashers team with a fair bit of star power upfront, but not much else and then basically a beat-up Brodeur & Co.
Rinne wins this for me because he is coming off a great season and think he'll duplicate that success for many seasons to come.
went with price but i don't think he'll win this one
i think price/luongo/lundqvist/miller are all in the same catergory really and rinne just needs another year to prove he's there too
How can you rank Price so high? Holy crap, he has done nothing, and then you proceed to mention that Rinne needs another year when he had a better year than Price did last year. I'm not really sure if you're trolling or being serious. lol.

I doubt it... the canucks are a better team from top to bottom then the rangers
Lundqvist would have atleast the same or probably better stats than Luongo if he was a canuck

How can you say that with certainty though? You can't. I'm looking at performance. The Canucks also play a much more open offensive style than the Rangers do.
