Honestly, if they don't make a move within the next 3 days for some serious bullpen help, then they'll probably fall out of it between now & July 31st. Lots of guys are out there. Broxton, Axford, Krod, Street and I'm sure a bunch of guys whose names I don't even know.

It's a shame Mejia is stinking up the joint in Buffalo. If he wasn't, he would have been here 3 weeks ago.

Excellent pickup by Cashman. Gives them what they were missing with Gardner out. Speed and good defense. Also bring in a very good, albeit older hitter in Ichiro.

Sad day for all Mariner fans across the Pacific Northwest. Thank you Ichiro for your good years on a bunch of bad teams. I understand why he asked management to consider trading him - no hard feelings.

All due respect to Ichiro who is clearly one of the greatest hitters to ever play. But he isn't very good now. He's pretty bad actually. His OBP is under 300 & OPS under 700. Honestly he's a tad better than say Luis Castillo with the bat at this point. and i'm not talking about Luis Castillo in his prime where he was a pretty solid player.

i think he lengthens the lineup. True, not the same player, but still fills a hole the Yanks lacked.

I really thought they were going to go after Victorino. Would have done us a favor too. Get that smug POS out of the NL East.

Like you said complete bias aside this trade is an ok trade for the Yanks, you get some speed hes got quite a few SB's but his hitting + obp has really fallen off over the last two seasons. Hell even four years ago this is a great deal but Ichiro as of now is a below average player who's more of a name now than anything. Victorino would have been a better option.

Annnnnd to channel my inner Dennis Green regarding the Mets "They are who we thought they are were"...

Victorino would cost a lot more $$ wise and would have a higher price tag in terms of trade value. Not worth it. Ichiro is the perfect move. Yanks needed speed and D and they got that. I have a feeling Ichiro will turn his offensive game around too. You tend to see that with aging veterans that become Yankees.

Ichiro was still a feared hitter in the Seattle lineup. Seattle's lineup is pretty much a joke outside of Montero and maybe Seager. Therefore pitchers were still pitching him carefully. In this lineup, he should get nothing but a healthy dose of fastballs. I see a revival in a Yankee uniform. Sure he was only 1 for 4 last night but he hit the ball hard 3 out of 4 times. I am not expecting the Ichiro of old but I am expecting him to be much better than what he has been this year.

Not to mention Smoak just got sent down to AAA because he can't put it together.

Perfectly put rebuttal perhaps he will turn it around in a better lineup.

Random Ichiro stat: If you count Ichiro's pro career in Japan, he has 3,812 career hits and 17 Gold Gloves. (2,534 and 10 in 12 seasons here).

He's 38 would be tough for him to get 3,000 in the US unless he has a few more solid years.

You can never tell what going from one of the worst teams to one of the best will do for a guy a the end of his career...he's already the best corner defensive outfielder we have, BY FAR, and is going to hit 8th. He steals bases (17 of 19 so far this year) and I'm quite sure he can produce as much as the Wise's of the world...and we got him for a song...no risk, good potential reward.

...these are the types of moves that help you win in October...very happy with the deal.

This team is going through more drama than the '86 Mets!

Byrdak and Thole getting into an argument and now this statement from Thole:

“I don’t think anything can get any worse than this right now,” Josh Thole said. “I can’t wait to get out of here.”

Harvey looks truly fantastic out there.

First pitcher in the modern era to have 2 base hits & 10+ks in his debut. pretty awesome.

Oh please, please work out for us. It's been so long since the Mets have had a home grown pitching stud. Hell only Bobby Jones, Mike Pelfrey, John Maine & Jon Niese have even been halfway decent as Mets since Gooden. That's a ridiculously awful track record.

I remember attending Mike Pelfrey's debut on accident as it was the second game of a doubleheader. It was a blowout as the Mets 17-1 but Pelfrey had some nice stuff.

But Harvey topped that performance x2. His performance was probably equal to Strasburg's debut if you think about it.
