Boutins Back!Jonathin backstopped us to a 4-1 victory.Late in the first period
Drummondville had a 5 on 3 power play and they just peppered Buotin.Latendresse
was down low and just ripping some onetimers at Boutin but Jonathon made
spectacular saves. After the play was stopped Jonathon got a standing O from
the crowd. This doesn't happen often as our fans are fairly tame.Another great
performance,Boutinmania is back.Oh yeah,33 saves I think.

He's been leading all season, actually. Save percentage, too. Certainly worthy of the smiley-clap. A 1.56 GAA in the Q is outstanding.

Notes from the weekend (instead of the game by game breakdown):

-Rogers still out with ankle injury

-Coleman and London tied Missy 3-3 stopping London's 10 game win streak, falling short of the record. As punishment (Hunter actually said it was due to a hunch), MacDonald got the next TWO games, breaking the alternating system for the first time this season. Coleman wasn't thrilled about it, and was surprised when the A-Coach came to him and told him he'd be sitting. All Coleman is doing is leading the OHL in GAA and SV%. Hunter insists Coleman will get a back-to-back situation down the road.

-Others not getting on the ice: Elliott, after a 5-man trade involving Missy and Sarnia, was a scratch on Sunday. He had been taking some dumb penalties... Dusty Collins hasn't played since Northern Michigan's opener... Paul Lynch can't find a spot in the UMass lineup... Tobin missed a game eariler in the weekend, but was back the game after.

-Plus: Smaby had a 2 assist night vs. Minnesota a night before Minnesota tore UND apart in ND. He thought he had a goal, as his blast from the point beat Briggs short-side, but it was tipped on the way in. Smaby got a lot of ice time, including 5-3 PK time and some late PP time. Smaby also cleared a puck off the goalline after it had beat Parise. Fun game to watch... Keller, who's turning into a PIM machine, is starting to find the scoresheet with more regularity... Zapletal is getting consistent ice time... Greco is getting good minutes with CC; I watched a replay of their game vs. Air Force and while he's not the PP QB, he is out there with the first unit and knows what to do with it. Big right-hander shows good poise with the puck and has a bit of a nasty streak. Skating looked good... Hrdel 8th overall in Q scoring (3rd on team behind Crosby and Roussin), tied for first in league in goals.

-Minus: Hrdel has been scoreless his last few games after being on fire... 4 TB NA Jr/NCAA prospects don't have a point; 8 don't have a goal.

Confirmed from the coach himself. He's suspended for the remainder of the year for "violating team policy."

I've asked the Lightning if they know more about the situation, but I don't expect to receive any details if the coach's stance was "there will be no further comment."

Some praise for Smaby here:

Smaby, despite a couple of mistakes in the Saturday game, overall I thought played very well. He's begun to use that large frame and long reach of his quite well and I like the fact that he's picked up his physical game and being smart about it.

I watched the Friday game and he was very much improved from last year. Much more poised and confident - and used much more.

I think he's capable of putting up mediocre numbers in another year.

Word from the Lightning is that he is leaving school and wants to turn pro in some capacity.

And he does...

Johnstown Chiefs are reporting that they've signed Paul Lynch.

Quote:
Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O’Brien announced today that they have signed forward Evgeny Lazarev and defenseman Paul Lynch.
...
Lynch, 22, began this season with the University of Massachusetts Minutemen where he was scoreless in two games. The 6’3, 220 LBS native of Peabody, Mass., sat out the 2003-04 season after transferring from the University of Maine. In 32 career games over two seasons with the Black Bears, Lynch had two goals and nine points. Lynch was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Another quality late round Rick Dudley gem ::sarcasm dripping::

Boy it was well worth spending that extra million on scouting instead of re-signing Adrian Aucoin so we could have budding superstars like Lynch, Smolianinov and Solarev in the fold. ::sarcasm pooling::

Try mid-round! Lynch was 5th round, much like our current enforcer-in-training, Brandon Elliott.

Nah, it makes the Panthers fans wet their jammies to hear me blast their beloved ex-GM, and that's a good thing.

Lynch made his pro debut for Johnstown last night. Track/discuss him further in the Minor League Updates thread.

I did not read to far back but as for Atherton. He was declared academically ineligable for the fall semester. He left last year to be with his mom who got really sick. He will either re-join the spring semester or next year.

The word I got from TB Head Scout Jake Goertzen was that Atherton would rejoin the team after Christmas, so I guess that coincides with the Spring semester.

Thanks for the info.

After last night's game, I'm not sure the Gophers need much help.

Coleman article

Quote:
Coleman burns Otters
Ontario Hockey League In beating Erie 4-1, the Knights ran their OHL record-breaking start to 15 games.
By JIM CRESSMAN, Free Press Sports Reporter

Gerald Coleman made sure the London Knights hadn't forgotten him. Relegated to the sidelines the previous three games while Ryan MacDonald played, Coleman came off the bench last night and turned in a fine performance in a 4-1 victory over the Erie Otters.

I watched Maine vs. BU today and was impressed with Mike Lundin's breakout passing. He hit some pretty long passes tape to tape. Still he was quiet on the scoresheet and didn't have any real standout plays but he did most of the little things right, though I might put some blame on him for allowing the gamewinning goal on the PK. I don't think he got over to the corner fast enough to try and shut down the pass to the slot, but he was at the end of a shift and was likely tired. He got a +1 for being on the ice on that sweet little set-play off the faceoff..

Also as a side note Chris Bourque looks like the real deal. He was exciting to watch. All over the place. 9 shots on goal for him.

Thanks, Hoek.

I got caught up watching the Chiefs-Colts Q-like defensive battle and forgot to watch it.

What is Rogers' eligibility status? Will he play another year or two in juniors, or should we begin expecting Feaster to sign him next summer followed by a pro debut in Springfield next year?
