Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the team has signed forward Phil Varone to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Varone (5’10”, 186 lbs., 12/4/90) currently leads the Rochester Americans (AHL) with 43 points (8+35) and two shorthanded goals in 63 games this season. His 35 assists rank him fourth among all AHL rookies and tie for 15th-most among all skaters. Varone is ranked 12th among AHL rookies in total scoring.
St. Cloud State men’s hockey forward David Eddy is on his way to the Twin Cities and plans to sign a professional contract with the Calgary Flames organization this afternoon.
Eddy, who completed his junior season with the Huskies on Friday at the WCHA Final Five, was an undrafted free agent. Eddy, a 22-year-old wing, said that the Flames have told him that he will be assigned to the Abbotsford Heat for the rest of the season. Abbotsford is Calgary’s top minor league team and plays in the American Hockey League.
Still waiting on completion/confirmation of Yogan signing.
I'd also expect we may soon hear something about the Leafs signing Sondre Olden as he has signed an ATO to play with the Marlies of the AHL and (I believe) his rights expire on June 1st. It happens occasionally that a team will bring in a player on an ATO and not sign them by June 1st, but it's fairly rare.
