Craig Rivet?

I noticed that Craig Rivet is now playing on our ECHL affiliate. At almost 1000 games he's probably done with the NHL for good. Nice to see him still in the game though. Anybody see him making any noise down there?

I read he signed there because its about a 2 hour drive from Buffalo where his family now lives.

I gotta give him props for doing what he loves and not caring about what people will say.

I'd like to take a second to commend you for this opinion.

Too many mouth-breathing these days are putting-down players that try to come back from injuries or willingly play at lower levels of hockey near the end of their career. Trying to tell these players, who have played hockey professionally for all, or nearly all, of their adult lives, to "have some pride" and just retire. As if they don't have pride just from being able to make a living playing a game they love.

So, good on you sir.

i dont know what his plan is, but playing hockey a couple of days a week (mostly weekends) sounds like a great way to spend his retirement.

much better than being a 37 year old man with nothing to do but sit at home.

Why wouldn't he be able to...the ECHL is a pro league. Scott Gomez played in it during the lockout.

It's true. I don't know why more guys don't go this route. Is Cheli still playing somewhere too?

That's pretty cool, I was wondering where Rivet was at. Surprised he's in the ECHL and not the AHL.

Apparently when he was traded by San Jose to Buffalo he was extremely pissed. Not because he was going to Buffalo, but because he and his family had to move, again. He went from Montreal, to San Jose to Buffalo, to columbus in 6 seasons. Thats a lot of moving around for a guy who spent the first 9 seasons of his career with one team.

It wasn't that his skill diminished to the point that he could only get an ECHL contract, its that he wanted the security that he will stay with one team the whole season, and the team he plays for is 2 hours from his family in Buffalo and as previously mentioned, with a lot of weekend games he's able to be with his family more often.

I dunno, I figured he could've played for Hamilton or Rochester on an AHL only deal.

I think Elmira might be closer to Buffalo. And I also don't think the travel schedule is as intense as the AHL.

Like others said, it looks like he just wanted to play again just for fun. Good on him.

keep in mind that gomez is from alaska, and the only pro team in the state is the aces.

I`m sure if there was an AHL team in alaska he would`ve played there instead.

I was just using him as an example for the guy who said he didn't know NHL players could play in the ECHL.
