Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Winnipeg Jets | 730PM/830EDT | The Late Edition

vs.

October 17th, 2011: 730/830EDT @ MTS Centre

TV: ROOT (HD), TSN-JETS

Season Series: This is the first of four meetings between the teams. Pittsburgh swept its four-game season series against the Atlanta Thrashers in 2010-11 and handed the latter a 5-2 loss in the franchise's final game on April 10 at Philips Arena.

Big Story: Pittsburgh heads to Winnipeg a bit banged up. Evgeni Malkin did not play in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres at the Consol Energy Center due to a sore right knee. Malkin, one of the League's brightest stars, has missed three of the past four games and will not play Monday or Tuesday, when the Pens visit Minnesota.

Projected Lineups
Pittsburgh Penguins
Kunitz-Staal-Kennedy
Sullivan-Letestu-Neal
Cooke-Vitale-Dupuis
Asham-Park-Adams

Letang-Engelland
Martin-Michalek
Niskanen-Lovejoy

Fleury

Winnipeg Jets
Ladd–Little–Wheeler
Burmistrov–Antropov–Wellwood
MacLean–Scheifele–Stapleton
Glass–Slater–Thorburn

Enstrom–Byfuglien
Oduya–Hainsey
Stuart–Bogosian

Pavelec
Mason

Jets: The people of Winnipeg are obviously thrilled to have the Jets back in town. Now, they'd like to see them win a game. Claude Noel's squad has opened the season with three straight losses and most recently dropped a 4-1 decision at Phoenix on Saturday night. Winnipeg has been outscored 13-5 in the three defeats.

"I'm disappointed and I'm not sure what we're waiting for," Noel said. "It looks like our team thinks we have a free pass to fail. (The team's stats) reflects exactly the way we've played. We're better than that, but we haven't proved that to ourselves."

Stat Pack: Jets rookie Mark Scheifele played a season high 16:22 on Saturday night but did not record a shot on goal. After enjoying a very strong training camp, the seventh overall selection at the 2011 Entry Draft is still searching for his first NHL point.

Puck Drop: "The bad news is we've lost every game we've played so far. The good news is we've got 79 more." -- Jets defenseman Ron Hainsey

Enstrom is finally back with Byfuglien and Hainsey with Oduya where they actually looked good together. Hallelujah!!

Too bad Crosby and Malkin didn't make the trip to Winnipeg.

I want to beat the Pens with their best lineup.

Since predicting a win isn't working, I'll predict a loss.

Pens win 5-1. Little wakes up and scores a goal.

I had a laugh at work and everyone's staring. Damnit, Lynk!

Thanks for making another good-looking GDT.

Great work Link you have a talent for the GDT's

glad to see Buff with Toby tonight. Here's hoping for a strong "coherent" effort and some big goaltending.

I really hope it's an injury and not a scratching. I seem to recall Kane having some ankle issues during last game however.

Lynk with another wicked GDT. Nice job as always.

I think we're going to come out hard and the pens will score 2 chincy goals that will deflate the team. 4-2 loss.

I understand why they don't want to play Enstrom with Buf. It puts shackles on Enstrom. Oduya, Jones is the only option if you want to get the most from Enstrom. I suppose you could put Oduya with Bogosian /

If Enstrom joins a rush, I assume that Buf would have enough sense to stay back. Is that a bad assumption?

Sara Orlesky just tweeted saying Kane is day-to-day with a lower body injury after blocking a shot last game.

It is an ankle injury, he was hurt blocking a shot against Phoenix.

One of the IC guys tweeted a quote from Noel at his morning press conference.

Looking forward to a good game tonight. I view the Pens as one of top 5 teams in the league (with or without Crosby) so should be very entertaining to watch and will be pleased if we can keep it close (and show some hustle damnit!)

The best part of home games is watching the energy in the MTS Centre rival a playoff game while its only game 4 regular season. Props to the 'Peggers, keep up the passion!

Looking for...a superb team effort

Hoping for...a surprise victory and a chance to compliment Noel (since I excessively ragged on him after last game)

GO JETS GO

To be honest at this point I don't even want the win that bad. I just want them to play well and not look like they suck.

Edit: Also saw this comment that kind of stuck with me: "A Jets loss is still better than a Moose win."

If you were watching the game Saturday, you might remember at the start of the (3rd?) period Kane was skating around with little pressure on one of his feet. The commentators made a comment on it. He ended up playing, but I was a bit worried. Glad he's taking some time off for it to heal.

Hey Jets fans, I'm gonna watch your game tonight with the Pens... Maybe I can be a good luck charm.

I'm looking for a western conference team to root for and with the Jets going next year to the west, they're on my radar.

Plus, I'll see them against my Canes this year alot so good luck.

Congrats on getting a team back.... Wish the same for my forgotten Whalers sometimes

Sorry for the injury, but glad to hear it's not a scratch. Had he been scratched, you guys should riot.

I'm already aboard the "Fail for Nail" bandwagon. Let's win occasionally, but not TOO often!

If the Jets ever want a confidence booster then a win tonight will do it. But I don't see us winning a game until we play Ottawa.
