I think they might be finally starting to catch on.

Then again, they might still be to busy giggling over the Ballard salary dump.

Well, they used to provide the NHL AHL level competition. Not sure what they're looking to bring this year though.

I don't think Sturm's cap hit is really that big of a deal, at least not yet. With Raymond injured and the team surely to suffer some short term injuries that would require recalls from the minors, there was basically zero chance of them saving up any cap space prior to Raymond returning.

Not that he's worth his money, or that he might not be a problem later, but there's really no rush to get rid of him, at least in terms of cap space. If he's not on the payroll that just means they'll use a less LTIR and then maybe save up a little cap space, which would probably just be whittled away when they needed to call up injury replacements. This is especially true with Bitz now eating up $700K in cap space for probably the rest of the year.

Hope he can get the Wolves going - he'll presumably be on the 1st pairing... but with who?

Alain Vigneault's take on throwing Tanev to the Wolves.
“In Chris’ case, we wanted the young man to play,” said Vigneault. “We thought that so far this year he’d done well but he was fighting for one of those No. 5 to No. 8 spots on our team. As young as he is, with the up-side he has, we wanted him to play (a lot).”

I also noticed in the first couple games how teams seemed to be targeting him physically since he's good at moving the puck out of trouble. Isn't he a relative unknown, or does scouting info travel that quickly around the league?

remember how much patience he showed with the team during his first year here... every member on this board would have fired AV 10 games before that slump broke! 5 games in is hardly enough time to write him off... and preseason is hardly a factor when you're learning a new system and dealing with new line mates, especially when most of your starters aren't playing.
They have already benched him for tomorrow's game if practice lines are correct and they usually are; they've already tried the 4th line and different teammates. Time's ticking faster than you originally suggested, unless this cycle is going to continue.

When i say by the end of November, that's the absolute latest, i'd want this experiment should last, meaning he should be waived or just gone from a Canuck uniform before that if he still isn't contributing. Anyway, enough derailing, lets continue in the Sturm thread.

Absolutely right. If Sturm is still going the way that he is into Dec, then a patient attitude seems to look like a stubborn attitude.

Huge Gain for the Wolves, Tanev will log huge minutes and play effectively. Polasek and Tanev as a top D- pair, how sick is that?? plus you got Schroeder and Lack and all the other guys, but now that Kesler is back.. does Hodgson join them? I hope not, but it's a possibilty. someone teach Cody how to play RW.

It makes sense all around, and this offseason i was speculating that Tanev would actually start with the Wolves for depth purposes. Obviously he looked great in the preseason, but he didn't look all that great in the regular season, and there's no point having him up here if he's only going to be in the lineup 1/3rd of the time. This lets us keep our pressbox staffed with vets, Tanev gets big development minutes in the minors, and we have a depth chart that is effectively 1-deeper than it would be with Tanev as one of the 8 roster d-men due to his waiver status vs Alberts/Rome/Sulzer.
