Sorry, slacking off. Out of the office all afternoon for a planning session and then worked late prepping a presentation for today. Real life getting in the way of the fun ... and no, I wasn't the one who voted UNB #1 this week.

Hmm. Both McGill and Western lost games this week to unranked teams, while UNB won twice, including thumping ranked Acadia. No anti-UNB bias in the polls now, no, none at all (which is kind of late). They do realize that the V-Reds have a healthy #1 goalie now, for the first time in 2012?

I'm shocked that McGill is still ranked #1, although just by the skin of their teeth. If you consider a shootout loss a loss, then yes, Western lost to an unranked team. Personally I consider it a tie plus luck (good or bad). Having said that, I agree that Western is ranked too high, but that was true last week. Manitoba is still ranked too low.

just thinking the same thing AUS fan. There are 24 other teams who would love to be in the top 10 and hes whining by losing 1st in the country by a point TWO weeks before the playoff start! Focus on your own conference first FreddyTFoyle....then on McGill at Nationals!
UNB held on to first place despite a couple bad weekends themselves earlier in the season so I have no problem at all that McGill lost and still remains #1.
I will say though...the seedings at Nationals may be more important this year than last year. If UNB gets the #1 seed they will play the 2nd and 3rd place OUA teams...if they don't win the AUS they will get the OUA/CW champions. Big difference IMO.

That's why the rankings matter, especially for the seeds coming out of the AUS.
If the OUA winner is ranked 1st then the other pool will have the AUS and CW winners and the OUA runner-up.
If the AUS winner is ranked 1st then the other pool would have the OUA and CW winners and the AUS runner-up or UNB.

Then they get Fullerton back, spank Acadia, sweep their weekend while the two OUA teams ahead of them in the rankings split their weeks, and many voters are still putting McGill and Western ahead of UNB.

what does me being a former Tommie have ANYTHING to do with a top 10. Taking digs at people i see Foyle. Good to see you havent changed. Obviously, voters outside NB have NO idea that Fullerton is back and just quickly look at the scores. I know the voter in Kingston does. Does UNB deserve #1? I honestly believe so, but thats cause Im into CIS hockey and have seen McGill play twice and my team almost beat them once. What does that tell you?
And STUtommies is mad at me cause i took to twitter and commented on UNB's PK ability.

OpEd: A season of firsts. Last week was the first in many years that McGill got the top ranking. This week that honour goes to Western. Probably not a coincidence that this season seems to have more disparity in the competitive balance in the OUA, particularly in the OUA West (i.e. record padding). Meanwhile the competitive top halves of Canada West and the AUS can beat all each other, so their records, and rankings, suffer.

heys guys, why do media polls matter at this time of the year? does the CIS use the final number 1 in the top ten as the number one seed for the tournament? if they do shame...shouldn't it be the number 1 team(division) at the end of reg season? thus top ten frozen after league play
then the AUS is at the pole and 2,3 both division winners, 45 6(#3 OUA ) are slotted in as per what ever I read earlier about only 2 conferences in one pool if there are three friggin OUA teams in there.
can some of you fine gentlemen explain that to me, as i sit here with my tan and no bison friggin hockey to watch shucks

True, right now the CIS Top 10 carries no more weight than a talking point, but the last one, after the conference playoffs are finished, does matter. Each of the conference winners are SEEDED at Nationals based on their rankings in the last poll. That's how you work out which of the two pools has to have two conference champs in it while the other gets one.

In other words, if the final rankings are the same as today, and UNB wins AUS championship, they get Seeding #1. McGill is already OUA-east champ, so they're in. If they beat Western they'd get the #2 seed based on their #2 ranking. If Western wins, and rankings don't change, they'd still get #2 seed because whoever wins Canada West is ranked lower than both OUA teams. Right now, whoever wins Canada West can not get higher than the #3 seed due to their ranking. However, if Sask or Calgary were to move up in the final rankings (highly doubtful now the way the rankings have gone) and win Canada West, they could get the #2 seed.
Continuing on, if Moncton wins the AUS, and the rankings don't change (but they probably would a bit), and Sask wins CanWest, then the OUA (McGill or Western) would get the #1 seed, Sask the #2 seed and Moncton the #3 seed and UNB would revert to the host entry seeding (#5 or #6, whichever makes the pools easier to sort out).
In this scenario Sask and Moncton would be in one pool with the McGill/Western loser while McGill/Western winner would be with UNB and the third OUA team (Windsor or UQTR).
However if Calgary wins CanWest, and they're still ranked behind Moncton, and Moncton wins AUS, then Moncton would be seeded higher than Calgary and get the #2 spot. It wouldn't change the pools, but it could change who gets to play opening afternoon (which I believe is highest vs lowest in the pool).
