The Toronto Maple Leafs continued retooling their franchise for the short and long term today, acquiring the rights to Coyotes holdout and former #3 overall pick Kyle Turris from Phoenix, along with fellow prospect Viktor Tikhonov, in exchange for centre Matthew Lombardi, as well as prospects Jerry D'Amigo and Kenny Ryan. The Leafs quickly then signed Turris to a 2 year, 2.4M$ contract.

"The depth we had at centre this season showed us that we could make a move like this and still remain competitive." Leafs GM TribalPhoenix announced in a conference call today.

"Kyle is a top tier talent who will get a chance at playing top six minutes, either at centre or possibly even on the wing. We see him getting a shot to establish himself as a legitimate offensive forward in this league, and believe he'll have a good opportunity here. Matthew Lombardi is a quality forward in the NHL, but we feel that we have the depth up the middle now with the acquisition of Paul Stastny to make this move. Giving up Jerry D'Amigo and Kenny Ryan was difficult, however we are thrilled to be getting back Viktor Tikhonov who will shore up our offence in the AHL, and show he can do some damage in the NHL as well."

"We're very grateful to Matthew for his service in his season as a Leaf, but we believe this is a great opportunity for him to go back to a club he knows, while also improving each of our positions."
Confirm. We needed immediate help in our top 6 going forward and Matty fits that role perfectly. He has come back very well this season and looks healthy. And he knows Coyotes hockey, scoring a career-high 53 points here during the 2009-10 season. In 97 games with the Coyotes Lombardi recorded 24-45-69 (.71 ppg). In D'Amigo and Ryan we add two quality prospects who we think fit our style of play perfectly.

We wish Viktor all the best. He's a competitive kid determined to show he's ready for a full-time job in the NHL. We hope he finds it in Toronto.

The Washington Capitals are placing DJ King on waivers...If you want an enforcer who sucks at fighting you can have him!

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired Marek Zidlicky from Minnesota in exchange for Jonathan Ericsson and a second round draft pick in 2012. The Red Wings feel they now have the best roster in the Western Conference

Get tough; Leafs acquire Latendresse from Wild

The Maple Leafs sized up their final roster for the playoffs today, acquiring power forward Guillaume Latendresse from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for their 2013 2nd round selection in 2013.

"Guillaume has begun taking his career seriously, and has begun playing like the bruising, imposing, and skilled power forward he has shown he can be in the NHL." Leafs GM TribalPhoenix stated in a conference call late this evening.

"With Nik Kulemin being able to play both wings, Guillaume coming on to the right side of our 2nd line adds a bruising presence that team won't like to play against. His numbers have shown his skills, and we know that Guillaume will be a fire hydrant on skates in our top 6."

"It was a heavy cost, but we feel this adds to the depth we need to really make waves in the Eastern Conference."

Leafs should hire TP as their GM and fire Burke.

That said, respond to my PM IR4, or face the consequence. Yes, there is only one consequence.

Confirm

We are re-tooling and will possibly re-build depending on this seasons end result. In moving Latendresse that leaves a hole on our 3rd line. We are looking for a replacement

Forward Ales Hemsky is on the block. If we do not receive a good enough offer, we will attempt to re-sign him

JETS FINALIZE TWO TRADES

The Winnipeg Jets acquired Centre Matt Stajan from the Flames along with a 3rd and a 7th round pick, in exchange for UFA forward Tim Stapleton and Aaron Gagnon

"An opportunity came up due to Matt's contract to add him at a discount, so we took the plunge. Stapleton and Gagnon are good character guys, but weren't part of the team's future."

In another minor move, Winnipeg send UFA forward Kyle Wellwood to Detroit in exchange for forward Jan Mursak and the rights to Swedish Goalie Daniel Larsson, currently playing for HV-71.

"Mursak is an intriguing youngster who will push for a roster spot and fit in well with the youth culture in Winnipeg. Larsson is signed thru 2012-13 in Sweden, however we will be keeping a close eye on him."

In the past we've had to switch components of the trade .... like a different player than Cleary and maybe a different prospect than Schroeder.
