Gorges, Weber and Emelin are all playing better than him.

I'm very hard to please but I think Diaz is a brilliant D-man and a future all-star

I'm not so sure about the all star part but I've also been impressed by his quick adaptation to the north american style of game.

I liked his raw ability from the pre season and its all coming together nicely, and I stand by my initial stance that he has more ability than weber.

I trust Gorges and (believe it or not) Weber more in their own zone, but the three of them have all been very good. Emelin has been good too but he has made a few more serious mistakes.

The four of them have been more useful than Gill and Subban so far though. For all the defensive injuries the blueline has been more good than bad.

Diaz to me has a ton of poise and I find he's insanely brilliant on the ice. His actual skill level is well above average, thus I think he has the potential to really break-out in this league.

Weber to me is the complete , smarter version of MAB ... occassional brain farts (as opposed to MAB's countless farts)but still a great asset to have overall.. not nearly as complete as Diaz.

Those two will be with us for many years.

Weber is playing good for us right now but I don't see him staying here long term. He'll probably be shipped somewhere.

he's been surprisingly good, still not good enough. but he'll improve. still prone to a handful of brainfarts every game. played better than emelin imo but outside of gill, him and emelin are clearly the worst of our d corp(se).

love his transition game though

You guys knew that he was the best Swiss defenseman in the Swiss league right?

Same league Streit came out of.

Considering that he has made no serious mistake like our boy Emelin (so weird to write his name from him actually playing for us), he's going to be solid for us.

No.

The worst are Subban & Gill so far. Just terrible for the most part.

Diaz been a good find. Over next few years he should improve and be one of our top defensemen. That is pretty good pro-scouting to find him.

Weber + 3, Diaz + 1, Subban -6.
Just saying.
Quite a good start for them, Diaz will still need some time to improve. In a Swiss newspaper he said, that he has to forget to play like in the Swiss League and adapt to the NA-style in the coming weeks.

As good as Diaz, Weber, Gorges and Emelin have been playing they are probably all 3rd-5th D at best right now.
Subban is struggling but so are the other top players; and return date for Markov is still an unknown at this point. Martin needs to do something soon or else it won't be long he gets replaced by someone else(hopefully Muller).

I've seen him play at a pre-season game.
It's obvious that he has talent and makes intelligent & interesting moves.
Although, he's tiny. I looked fragile on ice. He needs to gain some weight seriously.

He made more serious mistakes last night that Emelin did. The only difference is Carey stopped the puck on Diaz's mistakes. Emelin has the least amount of turnovers for our defense, it's just a shame both led to goals. One more game and Emelin will be leading our team in hits. On both of his turnovers that led to goals Emelin has been directly responsible for goals happening with him on the ice for us later in the game.

Don't need both Weber and Diaz, we need to get a big bruiser back there. Diaz has really been great so far.

Already one of my favorite players. He's adapted very well and I love his style. Hopefully he continues to improve and sticks around for a while!

Love Diaz so far, but we have too many D-men who don't separate people from the puck. Diaz - Weber and even Gill and Emelin to some extent just play positional defense with very little physicality along the boards

Is it just me or are the Habs opponents allowed to endlessly wander in our zone?

I'd like to see him on our top PP unit, he's smart with the puck and he's good at getting shots to the net.

Very impressed with how well he's adapted, thought he'd need a couple months at least in the AHL.

And how sad of a set of dmen do you have when this gets said? Considering Diaz has at times been shaky himself. In front of the net, some bad turnovers. But, he might not be strong enough to make it here. He needs to bulk up, and get tougher in front of the net.

You cannot convert Diaz into a physical defensemen. He's a smart guy with a very good hockey-sense, he can pass, shoot, fake and he also defends like that, with a lot of intelligence, not with pure force. If you can accept this and maybe pair him with a good physical defender he can have a long nhl-career.
