surely that would please Lou?

I gotta say, I loved watching Merrill at Michigan. But Red Berenson would not suspend someone for 12 games unless he seriously effed up.
He's only eligible for the CHL for another year, I believe, so he probably wouldn't finish school in that time.

I agree that Berenson wouldn't give him such a harsh punishment if it wasn't something serious. That's why I really want to know what it was he did.

I'm guessing its a pattern of misconduct. Underage drinking, being late for practice and meetings. Coach probably had enough of it. Just from his past history he is not the most mature and serious guy out there.

Those things are fixable if he wants to fix them though, he just needs to mature. I hope he stays at Michigan and comes back for his junior year and has a great season.

I think dream catacher has it... there's probably been a trail of minor misconduct over the years and perhaps he did something that pushed Red over the edge. Much has been made of maturity and Red's disappointment in him.

There's a right way to be immature, and a wrong way. The right way is Tedenby. Merrill is demonstrating the wrong way for us.

I anticipate another year at school if he stays for this one. Which is fine, if Larsson continues to progress, we'll be ok.

Guys, he did something stupid and got suspended 12 games. It's not like he stabbed a child or fornicated with Lou's sister.

I think it would better to get him out of school next year. Spending his time with guys with whom he is directly competing for a job would be a better atmosphere than the partying that goes on in college.

He's 19. He's immature. I'd be concerned if he was 30 and the off ice issues were still a problem. But let him grow up before we crucify him?

When we 19, I'm sure we weren't at the level of maturity that we are now. Heck, I'm 22 and I'm a lot more mature than I was then.

Can you imagine what Lou's sister must look like? What's the opposite of *****?

I was more mature at 19 than I am now. I blame that on a youthful lack of self-confidence and my now innate ability to cause a ruckus. Now I'm a handsome devil, dashing and beautiful, like a peacock at full plume or Fabio riding a horse. Maybe Merrilymerrily finally found his swag charm, ride that pony Jonny Boy, it only goes so far.

This situation is ridiculous.

Whatever JM did, we can safely assume he didn't break the law. I say this because he is no longer a minor and those are public records. With his status as a NHL prospect anything legal would have surfaced by now.

That means whatever he did was strictly an internal matter. We may never know what that was, but 12 games for something internal seems pretty harsh.

Most likely his past suspension led to the severity of this punishment. However we never found out what the reason behind that suspension was. I seem to remember a report from his draft year talking about his suspension. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but whatever the incident was, it involved other members of the team and most of the reason for his suspension was because he wouldn't turn them in.

If my memory is right (probably not) this kid has already taken one on the chin for his team. That shows more character to me than sitting out a 12 game suspension. It just seems to me that one unfair punishment is being used to justify another.

Kid needs to do some sole searching and decide whats best for him. Either way I'm not going to judge him he's had enough people doing that.

I have heard Todd is 17 and his blogs are copy/paste of TG and Chere's pieces. His contributions are this piece preferenced with a maybe and something he probably heard on his own probably given to him by Brian Huddle a guy who covers the OHL for that site. But nothing beats his Turris to the Devils for Josefson, the man who owns that site is having a laugh at Devils fans.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if he goes from NCAA to OHL doesnt that mean he's a free agent next year? The Mike van Ryn loophole.

this is pointless to discuss unless we know what he did. and we dont. so who cares? I really hope he got caught smoking a bowl or something. at least that would shed some light on some of the ridiculous laws currently in place. anything else will be a disappointment

edit- plus then i could call him chong, which would be fun

Agreed. I don't think he should stay in school past this season, regardless of his status there. Better to develop him in the AHL.

Yes, that would push up the deadline to sign him, but I don't think it will be a problem. He'll probably jump at the chance to sign.

I thought that loophole had been closed. I'm on my phone or I'd do a quick google search to confirm or deny.

Completely agree. It's starting to make sense as to why he fell so far in the draft.

irredeemable - I just learned a new word. I thought the proper use for what you meant was unredeemable or nonredeemable but after looking it up - it's a bit different. I'm marking my red solo cup with that so everyone knows it's mine.

Problem with that is the guys you mentioned were already stars when their 'issues' started affecting their team. Little different when you're talking about an unproven kid getting chances.
